Thanks to forum member SMB, I now have a pair of LF 240 Hid to fit to my 90. It has the standard LR soft protection bar. Tonight, I started to work out how they would fit. I need to cut away the grill to allow the lights to sit back flush with the A Bar, but apart from that they will fit nicely.
One problem I have is that some of the captive nuts in the top of the A Bar have come out, and I need to glue some new ones back in. Its high density foam behind the rubber outer skin. Any ideas or repair procedures? Also, is there anywhere that sells upgraded metal top A Bar brackets? the plastic ones are flimsy. "the plastic ones are a bit flimsy"
i always have thought that the plastic ones are flimsy intentionally to prevent damaging the grille surround if 'nudging something'.. rather bend or break a clip than push backwards into the grille panel surround IMO lights look good though! Flimsy by design maybe, but I don't want any scumbag just ripping off my HID's, I would rather risk breaking the grill.
I just remembered that Craddocks list Mantec replacements, but I seem to recall they were not in stock a couple of years ago. Will try them again. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy 1968 S2a 88 aka Bob 2014 Jaaaag F Type 3.0 Supercharged. |

Got some Mantec brackets
Very substantial. They are bare metal, so just putting some satin black on them before fitting. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy 1968 S2a 88 aka Bob 2014 Jaaaag F Type 3.0 Supercharged. |

They remind me a bit of those daft exhausts - the size of dustbins - that the boy racers used to fit on their Corsas!
OK, I'm sorry, I'll stand in the naughty corner for an hour or so. |

Not HIDs but 240XGTs. I manufactured some brackets as seen in the picture that negates the requirement for cutting the grille. Plastic brackets still fitted, they do the job and have done for the last 5 years plus and they won't rot!

Hi Gareth,
Good to meet you the other day and thanks for the deal on the lights. Have you set them up yet? Just a word of warning, as they are 50w HID XGT's do not stand in front of them to see how bright they are or you'll have white spots for days!! Hope they are what you expected |

Yes, got them finally fitted last night. The Mantec top brackets are nice and strong, the grill was easy to cut with tin snips, and yes they are very bright indeed!
Hope to go out tonight and take some photo's. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy 1968 S2a 88 aka Bob 2014 Jaaaag F Type 3.0 Supercharged. |
