I've often used my phone that's got so much t'internet access on its monthly contract. I then go into the phone settings and set it up as a wi-fi hotspot...........sorted.

Always thought the point of a holiday was to get away from all that nonsense!
Any mobile hotspot/dongle/whatever will only work if there's a decent signal - which these days means 3G for most things to be honest. Despite what the operators will tell you a good percentage of areas don't have this. It's 20 miles to my nearest 3G signal on my network  |

My mobile phone is just that, a phone, I think.
I have been reading up a lot over the last couple of days about mobile internet gadgets and got myself all confused. I was just after some recommendations etc. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to  us off.

I use a Vodafone mobile MIFI which is basically a wireless network hub that allows three devices to use the internet simultaneously. It works best in a 3g area but uses GPRS if 3g isn't available, which is most of the time when going away in the tin tent. I had an O2 dongle which didn't have as much coverage as Vodafone, so have stuck with Vodafone for the past few years.

If your nowhere near a wi-fi hotspot I'm pretty sure your gonna need a dongle,speak to your mob phone provider, O2 gave me a dongle last year for nowt, I'm only on a sim contract.Never used it tho, round here 3g reception is worse than broadband.
What phone have you got,I have a £30 Nokia c1-01 and can use that as a dongle.....if I was desperate. |

I was only joking about the phone its all singing but eats data, that's probably me though.
I want to be able to use more than one device at a time so that would mean two or more dongles and the costs, I was taken by these mobile WI FI set ups as they use sim data cards. I use an unlocked mifi with a samba sim in it. Samba is free and requires you to watch short adverts on your computer to build up credit.They use the three network which has the best data coverage.If you get recommended by someone then the sims are half price.I only use mine when out in the campervan and have 4gigs credit at the moment.If your interested then PM me and I can recommend you.

I have a 3 mi-fi device that I unlocked and buy a pre-loaded sim for the country I go to. You can connect 5 devices to it and charge via USB.

I use them at the shows and I have then with a normal phone Three pay and go sim card in, I top it up with a 15 quid all you can eat package if I need to use it. That lasts a month. Ive found Three the best for this and network coverage is generally very good for 3G in most places. Pete |

I've bought about 200 MiFI units in the last month for my company. I bough them from EE because nationwide the genuinely cover a significant proportion of the country with a good data service.
