This might help:

Its made out of 1/2 inch marine ply and carpeted on top with an off cut from a wholesaler. It has a reinforcing stand in the middle (screwed in) in order to take weight. My two dogs sit on it (combined weight of 60kg and it easily takes my weight 85kg. Underneath I intend to get some plastic boxes which will slide either side if the support for storage etc. It sits under its own weight.

Looks a bit Censored but when the carpet is dirty I'll just replace it and it cost me £10 to make, I just need to find something to finish of the edge by the back door.. Tools required are a tape measure, a jigsaw, drill, stanley knife (for carpet) and a screw.

Measurements:

Ply 44 x 51 (Inches)

Carpet 44 x 64 (Inches)

Hope this helps for a cheap solution

Higgers, did you have any problems getting that shelf in one piece? You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things

The measurements (51 inches) is the largest diagonal of the rear door, lower left to top right because of the rear door hinge. This will allow you to slide it straight in. You'll just need to drop the seat backs. The 51 inches also fits nicely between the rear seat belt brackets, thus it doesn't slip about.

You can then get plastic under bed boxes from cheapo shops for about £3.

Regards the carpet, I didn't staple it down because the dogs will only f*ck it up and i therefore wanted the option to throw it out and replace when it starts to stink.

Hope this helps. Thumbs Up

Fitted the mantec loadguard and shelf(ves) there are 2. They both go at the same hight but you could have just half the shelf space. Damn I never feel like people will understand what I write Confused

Anyway some pics. Hope they help to explore the options.

Worth mentioning as it is Censored design, on a 2 piece OEM cargo barrier the knurled nut to release the lower panel is inacessable and the shelves will not fit unless the knob is removed.

Fixings for mounting to the wheel boxes are not included but will need 16 nuts and bolts 6mm and 32 washers and 16 holes drilled. I am waiting till monday for that. Easier in the wharehouse and drier Thumbs Up

Hopefully you can see the holes in the 2 preceding shots. Some trimming of the carpet will be required for a good finish and I have noticed a lot of damp under the carpets which will need investigating, I may actually take it to the dealers before I drill holes so they cannot blame me. It is quite robust freestanding and I have secured it to itself with straps and bungees, rattle testing will be conducted tomorow :D

That Mantec one looks awesome! I might need something more temporary, though - Higgers, I was thinking a ply sheet would be the option so great to see yours.

Cibit - I too have had damp carpets in the rear (underneath my rubber load bay mat) although I reckon it is condensation.

Higgers - I know what you mean about the design of the components. I've got Mantec internal window guards and they make fitting the cargo barrier a real pain (even more than it is normally!). On a side note, after taking the cargo barrier out a couple of times to fit large loads in, the really soft allen-key bolts completely rounded off. I've had to buy a set of M8 steel bolts to replace them (highly recommended). Thumbs Up One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Guys, sorry to hijack the thread, looking at locally fabricating the stowage cage on the side of my 110's load bay, but need the thickness of the lip (in which the shelf sits on). Can anyone help out with the measurements. My divers eye has it at about 12mm, am I close?

Thanks on advance, THF!
