fit some good quality steel cable to the inside of the bonnet and fix to bulkhead or chassis that way if they do get it open and of the hinges they still have 2 good cable to trya nd cut another good way to slow them down 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)

Thanks for the explanation - I'm genuinely interested in finding a solution I'd be comfortable with and what you have said is new to me and makes sense. the ones I'd been looking at were these: rather than: Are you saying that if you grip either of the two stainless spacers you cannot undo the bolts? Bonnet security hinges will NOT stop the theft of a bonnet.
What it WILL DO is (a) provide a visible deterrent (b) slow them down. The average bonnet thief is a smash and grab type thief who wants to be in and away with the bonnet as quickly as possible. To slow the thieves down even more you can fill the head of the bolt with silicone or similiar and use a thread lock fluid. IF a thief is determined to be away with your Defender or parts of it, it is extremely difficult to prevent it. All you can do is use different methods of security and hope that the scumbag moves along to the next vehicle. Above all else do not let the fear/experience of the scumbags rule/ruin your choice/enjoyment of YOUR vehicle. As forum members are aware we sell these hinges and we talk to various garages etc. One of the bigger garage says on average they replace 3 stolen bonnets per month. Another one in Scotland says they do not have a problem with bonnets being stolen. Touching wood, to date I have not heard of a bonnet fitted with security hinges being stolen. So it is up to the individual Defender owner to decide if bonnet hinges are part of their layered security approach. Brendan |

I have the ones in the picture & replied from memory - always a bad thing for the over 50's - I was wrong But still think they act as a deterrent & look 8) Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated 2020 P300 HSE |
