Thought - might not be the cap. Have to checked the threaded part of the expansion tank to check for any deformities/damage? BM52

I lost about 10mm of water on my first long run on a very hot day, at the same time I noticed fresh orange tint on top nearside front of engine block near some plumbing. Stealer tested and found no leaks so I put it down to settling in of hose connections - perhaps? A couple of months later and nothing has changed so hopefully that was my one and only water issue.
Do you have orange staining anywhere? 2.2 90 XS 88" Series One Old Norton Minerva |

Round the seam of the tank and the tank filler threads! New cap makes sod all difference!

I had exactly the same problem "Mjibex" on my TD5 every 4 weeks i would check the coolant level and it would of dropped a fair amount but there was no signs of any leaks, i suspected the cap/thread on the expansion tank, one day after driving it i checked the level and i could her a faint hissing sound coming from the expansion tank undid the cap and the thread was wet, so stuck a thin layer of PTFE on the thread of the tank covered by a thin layer of silcone grease then never had a problem
hope that helps Matt |

I lost loads of coolant on my 2.4 last year,, The rear red engine lift bracket had cut the heater pipe... Quickly remedied by the dealers as the bracket is meant to be removed at PDI tiime... ... ,-------,

Don't panic just yet !
When I first bought mine 2 years ago I was concerned that I had to keep topping up the coolant as it always seemed to drop below the full level in the expansion tank. Then one of the helpful chaps on this forum suggested that I leave it alone for a bit and see what happens and hey presto it settled about 10mm under the full level and has remained there ever since ie - that was about 19 months ago. Mine also simillar to Rosy. I guess it leaks through the threads of the tank/cap but once it goes down to certain amount from the full level then it stops leaking. Strange!
