Papa, its is reasonably easy, just measure twice cut once, and think about what your doing. You are more than welcome to make a trip here, and I'm sure Steve would also help you with fitting. To me the fronts are the important/expensive ones. They will provide the highs and mids that will give clarity
 Having a dremmel to hand also makes fettering easier

 And yes, Steve's been a lot of help already too
I've got a dremel buried in the depths of the shed somewhere so I'll definitely be digging that out then. Cheers |

Right then. After all the great advice and encouragement on here, I went for it. Got myself some Focal 130VRS components to go with my Kenwood KDC-BT52U head unit. I also needed one of those facia bezel surround things as the DC has never had a stereo fitted before and the dash looked like this (I have no idea why picture is sideways on here!):
 Click image to enlarge For anybody who's interested, this is how it went. First step was marking out the lower dash for the holes for the woofers. At first I struggled a bit with the positioning of the passenger side woofer. The mounting plate wouldn't quite sit flat against the wiper motor cover because of the curve of the panel at the edge. A quick call to Jim got it sorted though He suggested I gently tapped out the rear of the cover using an engineering hammer to slightly straighten out the edge of the curve and it worked a treat. Got the mounting plate sitting perfectly flat with no change to the appearance of the front of the cover. Great tip
I marked out the holes using the mounting ring as a template. It was a bit difficult to see the lines though so I went over them with tippex That made them much clearer! Started carefully stitch drilling inside the lines and before long I had 2 neatish holes in my dash. A few minutes with a file and that part was done.

Got some photos on my phone and some on a camera but seem to have a problem with the camera at the moment
 And I still can't work out why my photos are all sideways on here!
I fitted the woofers and ran wiring to where the cross overs were going to be mounted: Click image to enlarge Next step was deciding where to put the shiny new x overs Click image to enlarge Passenger side was easy as there's plenty of room behind the wiper motor cover. Mounted mine in the same place as Jim - see his photo earlier in this thread. Driver's side not so straightforward though. I couldn't make room behind the instrument binnacle or anywhere else over that side so I ended up running all the wires back into the centre console. I decided I would be fitting the RHS x over in there, underneath where the HU goes (can't post that pic at the moment). Next up was the cutting of holes in the top of the dash for the tweeters. I wasn't looking forward to this bit..... |
