So, as it turns out...starter motor is the issue and will be replaced under warranty...IF i'm prepared to wait the 31 days for the stealer to get the part - not many defenders in Qatar, so not a stock item that is held. Bloody ridiculous if you ask me. The Palestinian mechanic that has been sorting the wife's Freelander out, has a Puma starter that he can sort today (go figure)... As soon as the LR warranty runs out, this is the guy we all turn to for service. Thanks guys for all your assistance and feedback, great to have a network that one can tap into for advice when needed. Really appreciated!

Can you try to see if the stealer can get the part from Ford? Or even a UK dealer and have it DHL/UPSd out there? Shouldn't take more than 2 days + customs.

So the part from the private mechanic is used...I'm hesitant to go that route and am trying to source a unit from Dubai..the alternative is to look at the Ford option. Does anyone know what the Ford part number for this starter would be, and would the Transit starter be a direct replacement without any modification required? Pulling my hair out here... thanks guys..

You've got to be kidding me... must be the weather change in Doha, my battery died a couple days ago
For the parts, just order them online, I do it on a regular basis, never had a problem with customs, I even had a transfer box shipped here Now for the battery, as it appears your battery wasn't the problem, I'd be glad to buy your spare one, just PM me Chris |

Has nobody modded their battery box sides with non-conductive covering yet?! Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender
