Dealer Confirmation of "20th December 2015"?
Has anyone spoken to their Dealer to see if there has been any official confirmation from Solihull to the Dealer Network to confirm that Defender production will indeed cease on 20th December 2015?
Cheers, Pickles.

Would you be able to ask them (JLR) "the question" (is 20/12/15 correct?) on Monday, & if they deny it, perhaps they could tell you who in JLR made the statement to the Press, and why?
Thanks, Pickles.

Sadly (although for obvious reasons!) the manufacturer will never comment on future models. Sad

Fair enough, I know that's usual, it is here in Aus too, but in this instance you'd only be asking for confirmation of not a new model, but only confirmation of a statement that has already been made by JLR?
Cheers, Pickles.

Where has 20th December 2015 come from? The Telegraph article says "December 2015". Does the day really matter? 2011 110 USW

Much debate rages about Huey's provenance. Some claim he's actually the first "production" car, built after an initial batch of 48 prototypes, but Land Rover's technical communications manager, Roger Crathorne, is adamant. "Huey is the first of the prototypes, no doubt," he tells me. "His chassis number is LR1 and the comprehensive records we hold tell the whole story. HUE 166 rolled out of the factory on March 11, 1948." Roger joined Land Rover as an engineer in 1963 and has never left, so if anyone should know…

Hueys chassis number is R01, ie right hand drive number one. I had thought the idea that it was the first production car had been put to bed decades ago, although when restored in the late 50s/early 60s it was at the time thought incorrectly to be the first production vehicle, and was restored to something like production spec. 2011 110 USW

"20th" is the date "quoted" in the Telegraph.
Cheers, Pickles.

No "official" communication to any Dealer then, of the 20th December date widely quoted in the Press...Surely JLR have said "something" to their Dealers?
Cheers, Pickles.

There’s a period of grace during which dealers can get rid of old stock, i.e. no longer meet the current emission standards. For example, when EU 5 came into force in September 2011, you could get good deals on EU 4 vehicles for a couple of months afterwards.

But although it makes sense to me that for a while after September 2015 when EU 6 comes into force, there’ll still be 2.2 Defenders available and being registered (up to 31 December 2015 if I’m not mistaken), I really don’t see how JLR will be manufacturing EU 5 vehicles as late as 20 December. And won’t they need to shut the lines down long before then to prepare for the Defender replacement?

It’s all speculation of course… But no, as of this morning, JLR hasn't said "something" to their Dealers.

I was reading an article on the net today, the focus of which was the "end" of the current Defender.
I was surprised at the quoted number of recent sales YTD, and they were 561 for Europe as compared to 487 for Australia. These figures are probably a month or so out of date by now, but whilst I can relate to the Aussie figure, I would've thought that Europe would have sold A LOT more than that, thousands more I'd have thought, in view of the recently quoted yearly production figures of around 16000 in 2012?
Surely 561 YTD for Europe can't be correct?...I'd have thought they'd sell more than that many in a month. Cheers, Pickles.
