Double Cab Audio From Scratch?
Hello all, Papa Lazarou here. I'm after some advice and this looks like the place to me.
I've recently got myself a 2005 Double Cab which is the base/farmer/poverty spec model. It's never had a stereo, speakers, anything at all fitted so I'm going to have to start from scratch.

My previous Defenders all had audio installed when I bought them so I've no experience of fitting and, as you all know, I'm a bit limited on space with the DC. I've searched and read through various ICE threads (including the big 'un!) and my brain is now frazzled. Loads of great info but still got some questions:

Now, I'm not a big fan of the speakers-in-ya-knees standard location but realistically, what options do I have? I'm not looking forward to trying to cut big holes in the lower dash. Anybody done this and how hard is it? I've seen speakers in the headlining mentioned - is this any better/easier?

Has anybody ever run speakers just in the back (under rear seats I was thinking) or is that just crazy talk? Would the sound be rubbish with no speakers up front?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm all ears. Cheers.

Ok then, time for another of my stupid questions Very Happy

Does anybody know what this connector is for? It's located among the spaghetti that lives in my dash centre console, behind where the stereo will one day go - when I've got my head around the speaker location thing. Wires appear to be: Blue/yellow trace, black and 2 x red/orange. Any ideas?

It's 2005 Tiger. I can see the big black connector with the wiring for stereo (I assume) but not sure what this white connector is for. Talking of the big black connector, it looks like there's 4 x wires that I think are the speaker wires. They disappear back inside the loom and I'm wondering where they come out. My guess is that they are going to reappear under the lower dash around where the standard (by your knees) speaker position is - would that be right? I haven't had chance to pull the dash apart yet.

Thanks Tiger, that's great - much appreciated. I can forget about that connector now then! Do you reckon those speaker wires come out where I think they do? I'm not sure where else they'd go to in a DC.

Yep, speaker wires are there alright. I'm thinking now that I'll have to attempt cutting the holes for speakers in the standard position. Has anybody done this or point me in the general direction of any info on doing it? Will I have to take the whole lower dash out? Obviously don't want to be cutting through wiring on the driver's side behind the dash. Any tips?

sorry i cant be of more use (my 110 is xs and had speakers etc from factory) but MUD-UK stock lots of In car entertainment bits - DIN cages, speaker pods, wiring, connectors etc. theyre very knowledgeable too so maybe an email or phonecall would be good to get the ball rolling...

sorry to blab but these [ http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/products/in-car-...-deep.html ] are good for mounting a speaker on a flat surface which you cant cut a big hole in - ie they require only screwing onto a flat surface and obviously a hole for wiring to get to the back, better than canibalising your dash or cubby etc Cheers, David
