Nice one Thumbs Up
I have seen many pictures on here with a rather big sticker in the window, similar to yours. What is that exactly?

Or the tax disk holder

Jeeezes Shocked All those tax disk holder and greenpeace appeaser stickers you guys have in the windows are real windshield view blockers. Shocked Should be illegalized as unsafe. Rolling Eyes
We here in Switzerland since beginning this year got rid of the one and only sticker that was mandatory on the Puma until last year, a small 6 cm diameter round sticker on a rear side window, which confirmed that the anti-pollution control (exhaust emissions) is up to date. Pragmatic as they are, the Swiss abandoned that practice as of beginning 2013 for all cars meeting Euro 4 (Puma 2.4) or higher cars. So for Pumas, no more stickers Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

We have quite enough things "illegalised as unsafe" already thank you.

Had a 48,000 mile service and MOT today - high level rear brake light was out but luckily it's not an MOT failure Very Happy
Apparently it needs a near rear screen to fix it as one of the screen tracks is faulty. I simply put a wire from the feed at the bottom of the screen to the bulb and got it working. Need to somehow neatly fix the wire to the edge of the screen/rubber seal. I don't want to try and push the wire under the rubber seal as it seems very ridged.
Also need to keep an eye on the rear brake pads which I assume will be easy to replace.
Was given a small ford as a courtesy car which is really slow if you keep the revs down to defender levels - just not used to driving a petrol engine anymore!

Really good service from MJ Fews, S Gloucestershire.

Well, really do not understand the necessity of a tax disk in the window at all. You could learn from the Swiss in this respect. Cool Here, if you do not pay your road tax on time, you get a reminder within weeks with an increase. If again, you do not pay within a few weeks, you will get an invitation to come to the car registration office with your license plates and your car registration document and hand them in. If you don't do that, within a few weeks, police will be at your door step to collect that all, and you don't want to know the amount of money and fines this will cost you then. Your car may be confiscated on the spot til you pay, or you loose it forever. Same procedure with your annual insurance premium payments. If you forget to pay, you get a second chance, but then if you don't pay very quickly the insurance company will inform the car registration office and you will be asked to immediately bring in your plates and registration documents. If you don't, police may collect your car, and even yourself.... System works a treat. Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Of course, I agree with you that tax discs themselves are unnecessary in this modern age.

But it's not dangerous to put them in the corner of the windscreen. Defenders have some of the thinnest windscreen pillars on the road today (hence why they're so crap at staying together when you roll them!) so if anything putting a sticker a few inches wider next to it just brings the "blind spot" in line with modern cars (which of course have very wide pillars for roll-over safety).

Yes, Swiss is great. Every year I need to stick a bloody motorway tax sticker on the windscreen and pay for a full year of use, while I'm only there for a couple of weeks at the most. Rolling Eyes

We like the Dutch to help pay for our highway maintenance. Laughing
And I've got good news for you.........................
Until today the highway sticker costs CHF 40,- As of next year most likely that will increase to CHF 100,- Whistle

Seriously, look at it in this way, if you drive on the péage in France (you most likely via Luxemburg from after Nancy down to the Côte d'Azur, how many € do you pay than just one way? Yes, much more than what you pay here now for an entire year access to a perfect country wide highway network. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

We could maybe take this Holland-Switzerland game further.... Let's talk about parking tariffs in the center of Amsterdam and in the center of Geneva. Amsterdam, one day parking in the old town or in the "grachtengordel" will cost you more than a full year highway ticket in Switzerland. And you also have to pay there on sundays Shocked
Geneva is a fraction of that, and........... sundays free Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

This is commonly caused by the high level brake light plastic cover rubbing the track on the glass. For me I removed the cover, put some solder onto the track and it's been fine sine - can't see it's been repaired and avoided the cost of a new rear screen Thumbs Up

Had a call from the dealer saying they had to get the extended warranty people in to examine it, after they decided brake calipers need replacing, so we won't get it back until tomorrow.

I figured they'd check brakes during their comprehensive multipoint check pre-handover -- to their credit they've said it's entirely their responsibility to fix it. 2009 110 XS Station Wagon

Isn't that a bit dangerous - I mean, it could be taken very literally on the Continent Whistle Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.
