Spotlights for LR Roofrack
Hi All..I have a 110 with the LR roof rack. How much should I be expecting to pay to get 2 spots added to the central positions on the roof rack, with wiring and independent switch fitted to the dash? Cheers!

Depends on what lights you go for. Have a look at Mobilecentre's site and/or a few others to get an idea what lights you may want.
You can literally 'source to budget.' A few more specific details perhaps would be useful. Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

For a set of lights maybe even a LED bar you can pay from maybe £100 to well over a £1000. Whistle

Just need an idea on budget really and what you want to achieve then you'll be inundated with suggestions on here! Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I guess, having looked through a few sites, 2 x the standard LR RTC 8921AA should do it...it's only for setting stuff up in proximity to the vehicle rather than actually finding my way cross country in complete darkness...
(Unless someone thinks I'm way off base with suggestion?)

like K9 say, it's really down to budget. there are lots of good spots as well as LED light bars.

wiring them up, you can either buy a land rover loom, buy a loom thats compatible with the lights you choose or make your own.

I have a rigid industries 40" light bar, 16,000 lumens, low power usage, built to US military standards and can be seen from the moon (almost), it came with a loom, I fitted mine to the underside of my rack. Mobile centre sell a good range of LED spots as so other sponsors.

the worst thing you could do is rush out and buy the first one ... enjoy the chase.

For a pair plus relay, wiring an OEM dash switch I would say ballpark £220-£230 if you do the installation yourself. You could shave off quite a bit by going for say a Carling switch. (maybe £50).

Cheers both K9F & bpman ... Budget wasn't a concern (within reason) but wanted spots rather than a bar...
LR dealer came back wanting £700 to supply & fit 2 x LR RTC 8921AA which they have now dropped to £500 after I expressed my shock & horror at that price and was trying to understand if that was still extortionate which I'm guessing it is based on the previous responses..

I order a new defender 90 & got a price off the dealer to supply & fit

I have got some prices back on the various bits, these are supplied fitted and inc vat, naturally they are the best price I can do on them!



Black Chequer Plate Wing Tops £360

Rear Mounted Work Light £400



Let me know if you would like these adding and I will amend the order accordingly

eye watering cost to supply & fit a rear work light.

If you do not want to tackle yourself A land rover specialist or an auto electrician will be more sensible on price 2020 P300 HSE

There is literally thousands of different lights to choose from.

Literally anything from about £10 to a £1,000.

Lots of cheap lights on ebay etc.

IF you wish to use them legally on roads there are a couple of considerations

1) They must be E marked

2) They must be wired through main beam switch.

IF for off road use only no need for E mark or wired through main beam.

If your requirement is for light close to vehicle with engine off then LED is best due to lower current draw.

If you want to support British industry and LED then Lazer Lamps

IF you want to buy cheapest possible then ebay.




When comparing lamps, just remember that wattage is power consumed by the light and has no direct correlation with light output. If a lumen figure is quoted the chances are that it is raw lumens (unless stated otherwise), a calculated theoretical maximum Lumen figure.

The effective lumen (if quoted) output is a calculation of various losses and will be closer to the real light output.

For your intended use, it sounds like you do not want spots but rather flood lights, and then incorporated into a work lamp with a pivot will give you most flexibility.

oops - just seen your intended LR light is just that type - but check if spot or flood internals are fitted Embarassed

I've had a few of them over the years. Plastic bodies much better than metal casings; but all have suffered from water ingress sooner or later and reflector starts to rust. Also the paint on the mesh guards flake as soon as you look at them. Look at the switch quality on the rear, again some seem better than others. Nothing worse than fiddling around with the switch trying to make the light work in the pitch dark...and usually rain!

I'd source other than LR - they don't make lights so no benefit in paying a huge premium to them to have them.

Also, the way it's shown wired is just asking for trouble with rain running down the wire and through the grommet. Either run the cable lower than the entry point or use one of the ip rated connectors:




Other than I have a supply of new old ones in my garage, then I think I'd look at the leds one next time around and check the quoted ip ratings to get the best I could.

As an alternativre option - how about just having waterproof connectors on the rack and then put portable work lamps up on a quick clamps as and when required. Would keep the lamps inside and then they will infinitely longer than being hung on the back. With a long cable they can also then be used inside/underneath/under bonnet of vehicle?

These look good too, got them saved in my favourites as contemplating a fit myself. Very well made, good reputation and LED available in spot and flood options, good price too in my view. From same company recommended by BPman. Thumbs Up
