Pyrenees
I'm planning a trip to the pyrenees next June. Going with a mate in a discovery 3. It looks like at the moment we will drive down from northern France to the med side of the pyrenees and then drive as much of the route across to the Atlantic side as we can in the 5 or so days that we will have. This should prove to be a bit of a marathon drive in the defender? We will then look to get the ferry back to uk from Santander.

I was just wondering if anyone has done this before and if there are any must do's or definitely must not do in this area.
Are there any routes that you would recommend along the way. We are not looking for anything hard core so far from home but just good routes at altitude so that we can enjoy the fantastic scenery.

We have access to some of the road books in terms of route finding but are un decided as to which mapping system to use.
I like memory map and have all the French maps including the pyrenees. Problem is memory map do not do the Spanish pyrenees ! Any ideas gladly appreciated Thumbs Up

Will report back with all the photo on our return Thumbs Up

"Done" the Pyrenees many a time,, great place, well worth the trip

Your plan so far will work,, drive down and ferry back,,
Not much below Andorra,, and better on the Spanish side

Worth buying one of the many road books that are available,, for what they cost

Have all the info from previous trips on the works computer with links etc,, will post some when next in the office !

The drive down is an easy drive as the roads are so good, and the miles just disappear. I would advise getting cruise control for it as then you can relax a bit more, and remain within the legal limit. The only two problems I can think of are tolls on the motorways, which are pain to keep stopping and costly, and the other problem is the roads can be very boring, as there are massive areas with no interest, but this will be better for you as you'll be in convoy and I would use cb's between the vehicles.

Have you looked into ferry costs to Spain? I think it is very exspensive, and for me too costly especially a one way journey

I'm off on the drive from Calais to Irun (Spanish Atlantic side) today for a 10 day trip to the med side. The Roverdrive & cruise control will be getting lots of use hopefully Thumbs Up
