is the radio aerial electric
Hi, just picked up my new 110 USW XS. Is the aerial powered? it pulls up manually but I wondered if it was broken.

Thanks, BCP

No it's not automatic.

The auto part of the ariel is that as soon as you see a bush or tree it will snap and fall off.

You could always fit an auto one though if you wanted, relatively simple to do.

if you decide on an electric aerial, check the size and space available, i recall it might not be as straightforward as it sounds. if you do, please post up some photos

I went for the "cheap" upgrade suggested by another forum member.

Got one of these > http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270955002855?ssP...9106484653

Then extended the standard aerial out, cut it off quite low down, screwed in this new aerial into the exising one. Crimped it tight and pushed the remains of the standard aerial back in.

Works a treat and looks so much better.

I'll take a close up photo, but you can see it on this photo

Agree the standard aerial is really naff but so far I've found reception with the aerial fully down to be good enough to get along with. Surprised

There is a company that sells an electric aerial where the motor is remote so it all fits in the space below the aerial hole. Std Electric Aerials As far as I know do not fit.

I did look at one of the electronic windscreen aerials but because the wipe area on the windscreen reaches near to the top of the screen it would have come into the visible area for MOT failure.

I will try and find the link.

Just remembered it's Mobile Centre. Here is the link:

I consider the standard aereal to have an extremely valuable function.
Fully extended it is about 5 cm higher than the highest point of the 110 (the rear), so the aereal is acting as a warning signal for eventual height issues in underground parking lots.
Would not want to miss it or replace it only for that reason already. Thumbs Up
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I do exactly the same! I drive under a car park height thingy bar up to the aerial, see that I fit then gun it! Freaks the f**k out of passengers! Cheers, David
