New 110 - Dealer wants to take the roof off !!
Good morning everyone, this is my first here. I wonder if I may seek the advice and experience of some Defender experts Very Happy

I have a 2013my 110 with a door rattle since delivery in May. I have returned it to my dealer for adjustment (I guessed they'd get their heaviest fitter to hang on it from the ramp and that would be it. NO ! Apparently the roof wasn't fitted dead square with the result that the door isn't fitted correctly and is rubbing against the door frame at the front with no further adjustment available.

Yesterday the service manager called me to tell me this and that the ONLY remedy available to them is the take the roof off and re-fit it correctly Shocked

To be honest I am still in shock about this; I can't believe the removal and re-fitting of the roof can be considered to be usual dealer carried out warranty work. I'm worried that once the roof's been off it will just be the beginning of a whole raft of issues.

Has anyone any experience or opinions on this ? Should I accept what they say or should I kick up a fuss ?

Taking the roof off a Defender isn't as drastic as it may sound. It's only a couple of dozen bolts and then it just lifts off.

In my youth, I'd think nothing off taking the roof off my Land Rover for the weekend, and then back on again before work on Monday. Darren

you really are new to land rover ownership aren't you Rolling with laughter

If that's what the dealer wants to do, let them go ahead and do it, at the same time they can fix the room leaks too ... make sure its documented.

During the winter months, if you leave your land rover outside, it will leak, you will find water on the front mats, but hopefully if they refit the roof and do a good job .. you will be one of the lucky ones Thumbs Up

Thank you, that's reassuring.

Not that new actually. Just new to Defenders, I had a 1995 Disco 300 Tdi for 6 years and a new 2001 Disco Td5 for 11 years. Had a few issues, but never had the roof off ! Laughing

As the others have said removing the roof is no issue especially if it results in curing your door problem. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.

This is the second time in 2 months I have heard about dealers needing to remove and reposition the roof.

Can not remember all details of first occurrance I heard off but think it was something on lines such as roof not being fully square on and so leaks occuring???

So yes dealers do take roofs of and reposition them to solve problems.

My old company car 110 (a "new" 300Tdi 110 SW) had a leaking seal on the bottom of the windscreen, so the dealers lifted the roof and removed the screen to fit a new seal.

I reckon is was the QA guys who moved the roof slightly out of square to seal the leaks but then didn't notice the door issue Whistle

I had a similar door problem. Dealer tightened all the bolts on the roof frame. Creek all gone. Keep the faith. Its all worth it

They still use the worn press machine to punch out the roof panels, and they aren't at there best anymore, but it's cheaper to fix issues under warranty than new dies for the press,

That's what I heard anyhow Confused

But the Tdci roofs were different from Td5's as they've got the small external ribs on them, so it would be a different press die i'd have thought?

Late TD5's too. Post '02 maybe? Regardless, it's clear that they're not still using the original tooling for the roof panels. Darren
