Check the connections to the 10AS alarm (Green) box thats on the bulkhead behind where the speakers are for water and corrosion.

Have you got 2 remotes, and do they both have the same effect?
If it is a 2010my, then the batteries should have been changed in the remotes at least once according to the Service Manual. Something simple to try. If both remotes act the same, then as Pete says, it is probably something to do with the alarm unit or connections. Even worse in a way as do not know when will happen again

Did you change the batteries. When mine were getting old, the alarm had random behaviour.

Same experience here. When locking the car with the remote suddenly the orange turn signals would not come one anymore as indication that the alarm was on. The red LED would still start flashing, but when subsequently unlocking the car with the alarm, the red LED would for 15 seconds keep go on and off in an erratic mode..... Always could start the engine and drive off though. Seems those thngs happen as a warning of low remote battery, and yes, replaced the battery, and all was back to normal promptly. Replacing battery by one fresh out the blister is first thing to try You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
