It's funny you should say that. I thought the same thing when I looked at the photo but it's how they were originally fitted and it's also how every other picture I can find shows them fitted Darren

Never touched them myself, mine were fitted as on the picture from the factory. |

Then i suppose mine's was turned around by a rock. Now i have more clearance.
I can't see any reason to leave them as in the picture, This only prove factory is lazy. Clearly wont do any bad, at least on the road but it look just wrong to me. |

Mine also left the factory with them as shown in the photo. I have always felt that putting them the other way up would be sensible, but I've never yet got round to it. I suspect that which way up the are fitted depends on which assembly line worker puts them on the vehicle. It looks really odd seeing a set of OEM steps that aren't all rusty! |

Yes, another perfectly normal "feature" of a Defender. If you look at the seal, it has a number of little holes in the rubber strip. These fill with water and when you shut the door, it is expelled with some vigour. The seals are carefull fitted so that the holes are directed at your face! Another clever little water feature is the way that, unless you open it really slowly and carefull, on a wet day the water that collects on the door drips onto the seat when the door is open. It's all part of the uniqueness that makes us love our Defenders so much. |

Heh, heh, I am quite pleased about that. I've just had a quick search and found a set of installation instructions for these steps: http://www.paddockspares.com/media/downloa...TC7631.pdf That shows the bars the other way up, so Luismi is right. I'm off on hols in the 110 tomorrow so I'll change them around when I get a quiet half hour. Interesting! I will reverse mine too in that case!
I suspect that it is idleness in the factory in that case, since to get them the right way up you would have to hold them when you tighted the first fastener. If you just let them hang, they'll end up the wrong way up like most seem to do. |

Went for a drive after she's had new swivel housings, bearings and seals, new wheel bearings, new front callipers, pads and discs and she feels much smoother now she's also had a full service and evo1 in the gearbox and evo2 in the transfer box and new road tax so an expensive week but hopefully all should be good for the trip to France

I've been recently cleaning up my whole chassis and underside in prep for doing a proper undersealing treatment. Anyway was caked in dirt which was thankfully dry dust mostly thanks to our good weather. So I used this;
Click image to enlarge To clean out these: Click image to enlarge On both sides. The amount that was in there. As these particular two chassis holes are such dirt and muck traps and no doubt water I was wondering if just on these each side sealing them with something like duck tape and then painting / sealing over would be a good idea? The OS hole has no cable routed through it so is an easier one than this but this one would require a little more careful sealing. There are plenty of other holes for the chassis to "breathe" through anyway. Any thoughts on this? ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |
