I can't really answer your main questions, but:
Be aware that there are legals issues relating to the placement and connection of auxiliary lighting.
You bet there are! In general the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations and the Road Vehicles (Lighting) regulations mandate that front lights must be white and rear lights must be red. And other colours and you are entering highly regulated territory. |

Where are your 170's installed and how many? I have six 170's on the roof rack and two 240's in front of the grill. Although these are all 35w & 50w HID's I have found all the filters other than clear spots reduce the lighting. Some more than others. For Nearby Clarity I personally have found the Crystal Blue Combo's being the best as they not only give a pretty good close-up lighting, but they light up further afield thereby giving a good definition to distance. The Crystal Blue gives a very sharp definition on everything it lights up. There is another deeper blue, but it is not that impressive unless in spot. For the Fog equivalent, I have tried both the Yellow and the Amber and have actually found the Amber in Combo or Wide as good for vision in Fog. I now have worked out the best set-up for me as being on the roofrack two clear outside spots and four inside Crystal Combo's and in front of the Grill as Crystal Blue Spots or if in fog then Amber Combo with the lights adjusted so they are pointing down slightly. With regards to the legality Blackwolf is correct. However, whilst all mine can come on manually or with High Beam they have independent override switches. I have checked this with Traffic and they are happy as long as I don't turn them "ON"  The override switch is very important though if you do decide to wire them into your HighBeam. |

Ordered but not received yet (next week hopefully when Brendan back). 2 x 170s will be from my A bar (240s too big for space left by winch.
2 x 140s, hopefully as separately switchable on/off for reversing illumination where needed. Will probably be on a bar. Otherwise as front auxilaries if I get a Series 3 I'm considering. Are there any regulations for single purpose front fog lights, that can have them on with dipped beam, as much for increasing conspicuosity as visibility? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy.
