I'm beginning to wonder myself.

the only thing keeping me sane is along the lines of...I go to 3 different dealerships (the 3rd one being suggested to me by LR customer services) who all tell me the car is fine and 'characteristic' and then things start 'falling off'......perhaps thats what they were trying to tell me all along - things falling off and breaking is normal.

I've only just realised now what they were telling - I've been missing the point along.

I best shut up and move along. clearly if it drives well thats because something has gone wrong and it isnt' operating with the intended 'characteristics' associated with a def.

yeah caterham.....

its was kind of by default I bought the def. I'd built a westfield many many years back then got my caterham r300 but was never quite happy with it then got my second r300 (in my opinion possibly one of the very best r300's and it was absolutely fantastic - was going to keep forever and then money got tight so it had to go Big Cry

so after some saving I wasn't in a position to replace it with want I really wanted (an R500) but still wanted a car I could ticker with and had some character but could be a family car and capable of towing.....hence the def.

I'm glad you find my posts entertaining Thumbs Up

Some mechanical and some cosmetic.
I think your just saying what a lot of people on here go to bed worrying
About.

I for one wish I kept my 110 county 55 plate as the issues were well
Known when I bought it 3 years old and it was half the price of a new one
Of which I bought this year.
As the months go by you can see the issues slowly uncovering themselves.
I don't loose sleep over it but I can understand why your so peed with
Bad customer care and service.
I hope you resolve any probs you have soon Thumbs Up

Caterham old chap, I've said it before and I'll say it again - find an experienced Puma owner [not a dealer] local to you who really knows their stuff to have a look and drive of your vehicle. Surely there's a forum member who knows his beans not too far from you? If you were local to me I'd gladly let you have a good snoop around and an extended drive of mine Thumbs Up Steve.

thanks Steve,

its in tomorrow so lets see what comes of that and then yes I've already made enquiries with a guy not to far from me who has a standard 110 although its a 2.2 but he owned a 2.4 before and he suggested he was up for taking mine for a spin and hopefully vice versa.

I'd still love to understand why some of these extension shafts have failed especially when someone has suggested 'mis-alignment' ?

I had the same problems and is was the coating on the cable liner had come adrift and was jamming the cable. It needs either a new cable or (as I did) just work the cable back and forth cutting the excess plastic off until all the liner is gone.

thats very interesting. I noted it but didn't really look too close and to be honest I thought replacement was over kill but I've kind of got to that stage now where I'm will to throw money at it to get it right.

it does make me wonder how it got shagged up in the first place tho......

that said I dont' know why......they've successfully shagged numerous other things Thud

too early to tell and I've not used it this morning but the very brief drive back from the garagewas interesting as it seemed different.

apparently the only thing they did was replace the transfer box sump plug (obviously oil too.......actually they might have put the original oil back in ?)....they also replaced the drivers door central lock actuator - sooo much better (and that muppet from land rover told me 6 months ago it was ok Evil or Very Mad )

while stationary with engine off the gear change sounded quite different so will be interesting to see how things go no.

did I read somewhere once that gearboxes etc work on an internal pressure etc. just wondering could a slight leak on the transfer box have made much of a difference - I wouldn't have thought so but what do I know?

I think it's autos that work on pressure, or at least they used to. The transfer box is a completely separate unit to the main gearbox so I can't see how anything that they may have done to that could affect the gearchange in the main box. Certainly not just replacing the drain plug and oil.

Also, it's highly unlikely that they've re-used the original oil. Apart from anything else, imagine the faff involved in getting it back into a suitable container to re-dispense it from Rolling Eyes Darren

i hope you're right about the oil - I'm sure you must be.

i also agree on the oil / transferbox not making any difference. I'll have to report back after a few more miles but all I can saw is it seems a little different but can't but my finger on it.
