its due to go into colliers at erdington monday for them to look at the transfer box leak.
I've told them if it comes back with any other problems I'll be going ballistic and will cause them hell - after picking the car up from a service with main earth strap loose, dash not put back properly, chassis rail bashed to fook with hammer, missing nuts, bolts fir trees, scratch dash board, elbow dent on wing top and shagged carept I've kind of had enough. without taking time out of work its just proper difficult to get to the others. I wouldn't touch the one over at solihull after they reversed my last one into something and wouldn't take ownership and used the wing top for their oil can leaving both oil mark and scratches........ I wonder if the main man upstairs is trying to tell land rovers aren't for me ? and yes you're absolutely right 6 months left (albeit I do have a letter from land rover kind of saying they'd give me another 12 months factory warranty?) |

kind of been there and done that.
have written to LR and they've kind of been good (eventually) but ultimately they seem to employ some morons the certain areas. this is no word of a lie - I have a regional technician / engineer, service manager and workshop manager in the car with me while I took them for a ride. and guess what - ' that noise is characteristic of a defender ' muppets ! since then had injector learnt, manifold bracket bolts installed (they were missing) and a new gear box (to be honest I'm not sure if the gear box was before or after I took them for a drive). and I still have this outstanding issue. - oh and get this - when I explained and demonstrated the drivers door lock (which is now only operating intermittently) takes 3 times longer to open than the other doors I was told that was also normal and he tried explain is was related to the rubber door seal dash I'm prepared to live with as its not that bad or in your face. the chassis is more the beam that goes under the g.box but obviously the hammer must have deflected of the bent / mangled mess onto the chassis taking the paint off (look to replace beam at later date). the big / only real issues (that I'm know of) is the transfer box leaking (and to be fair its only a small leak) and the handbrake. having replaced the carpets recently I noticed the hand brake cable has a plastic coating which was all shagged at the end along with the rubber grommet where it comes through the seat box.....I just wonder if this is catching and stopping the hand brake from returning properly (I dont' think its the issue but will get a new cable to be sure)? |

So the sage continues....
Am I right in thinking this is your first Defender? IMHO what you really, really need is an experienced Puma owner local to you to look over your vehicle and then take it out for a thorough test drive. Failing that get someone to recommend a trustworthy local independent to do the same. Seek hands on advice from someone who really knows how these vehicles drive, they should be able to tell you if there is anything wrong or put your mind at rest.[/u] Steve. amazingly this is my second.
I say amazing cos the first one wasn't exactly a dream. I was kind of happy with it mostly and just put up with it cos it was like a tractor which is what I thought they were like.......until the trader that bought it off said he wished he'd never set eyes on me or the car. turned out it was in need of various fixes incl injectors, pump and various other stuff (can't recall now) and there was issues with the abs etc. end up in limp mode at least once and I believe there was a dodgy egr. .... and then I bought a second one. to be fair I think the drive train was ok - hence I kind of know this one aint right. plus I 'know' this isn't right cos I don't see how it can be different from day to day / hour to hour and be right?? having taken this one to the various LR dealerships (3no) and be told all is fine and they a week or 2 later have the input shaft go, 2 days later find there's 3 bolts missing on the heat shield assembly and then have the gear box go a month or so after the input shaft is replaced. I either have an intermittent problem that makes it drive lovely or there's a problem?? problem is I don't have enough experience to know exactly whats wrong but I'm gradually learning (a bit trial and error) - I'm hopefully I'll get there in the end. |

You should have taken the deal on the new one when you had the chance.

perhaps I should have done but I don't really think it was that great a deal hence I didn't.
especially when you consider mine is like new (well expect for the rust and running gear / transmission - that only leaves the tin shed on top really then ) |

If you get back onto land rover complaints again with another problem I'm sure they'd give you a better deal

I'll see what the story is after they've looked at the transfer box, then I'll rebuild the hand brake and see where we're at after that.
hopefully it'll be job done and I can shut up once and for all possibly even sort on the short list of toys I have in mind |

Given the glowing reports of James French as per THIS POST, perhaps arranging a visit would be a good way to resolve your issues. Darren

Good idea perhaps but James French is an independant and will only take on minor warranty issues not the 'Zeppelin size marathon ones' Caterham always seems to have on his shoulder.

With 4,592 registered users we could all chip in and help him move on to another marque. I'm in for £5 as long as it's NOT a Defender. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |
