Ireland 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 CSW Stornoway Grey
Still got a mega soft spot for the D4 but the N1 classification ramifications here in Ireland means D4 = € 70k and € 2100 annual road tax - Defender = € 40k and € 935 tax. That made the decision for me really Very Happy

I personally at the moment dont want any new LR product. A Puma is the only LR product i would own.

D3/D4 RRS FFRR have to much stuff to go wrong. I was recently thinking of swapping my 90 TD5 for a D3 until i spoke to my indie, while i was having the 90 serviced. Personally i would worry to much about it going wrong. They are probably better to drive though.

My indie pointed up at his ramp. RRS body on the ramp, chassis engine standing on the floor. He raised his eyes at me. This was monday.

Popped back in yesterday to ask him something. Body still lifted off, Engine out, gear box out and all other bits in pieces. Thats 4 days later.

So new LR Product (excluding defender).... With a warranty Maybe, out of Warranty.. NO.

Defender any age... Yes

TBH this is no different to any other car - especially when you look at the volumes produced, with all the LR products - including the defender - most of it is just hot air; with discussions done to death on the subject

The body off seems excessive and i suppose it is, but they are designed to do that; with it actually not being that much of a big deal...just seems if from a traditionalist point of view.

Actually, to some extent the body off has its advantages!! but all in any modern car is complicated and any car has scare stroies - what about ferraris that need to go back to Italy for work?

I see your point, but personally i dont have enough money for repairs which i know will be very expensive, regardless of if its the correct way of getting to a particular point.

Again this is probably relevant to all new cars. However with a defender, generally repairs are alot easier. Costs of parts are probably comparable to other marques.

My other point, which is regardless of money is that it would annoy me to have my car in the garage for long stretches at a time, especially if it was relatively new. Again this isnt any different to other car makes, but most things on a defender can be done in a day, and most problems wont stop them running.

Im not wishing to have a mine is better than yours argument, i would undoubtably like any of the new LR models, If i won the lottery, i might have one of each, but as i earn my money, and currently only need one vehicle, my Td5 90 is the one for me. I cant be bothered with electric handbrakes that go wrong, air sus, etc etc, for basically something that does the same as my 90. Again, you may not agree with that statement, but thats my 2 pence.

I wasnt saying it for that reason...remember until march i had a Puma defender Thumbs Up

I would say my 90 spent more time in the dealer (2 months) in the same time ive had my range rover to date - infact my defender spent around about 10 months in the 3.5yrs in the dealer...possibly longer if i worked it out.

On one occasion i had my defender back for 15 minutes after 2 weeks, before i was without it again for another week.

And yes, whilst some parts, generally actually, for land rovers are cheaper - the Puma - still given its age, is more expensive on parts than say a td5...i havent looked recently, but i bet the avaliability of none genuine filters is still hit and miss.

Yes i see your point. I guess your defender ownership experience has been different to mine, hence the difference in opinion. I previously has a D2 and it constantly had a list of things that needed repairing, where as my 90 in the past hasnt. My ownership of my D2 has maybe tainted slightly the potential of owning another Disco, however never say never.

I do completly get the draw of Discos, RRS etc, but for me, its a Defender. Personal choice for my needs. Current:D4 HSE
Gone: BMW Z4MC
Gone: Defender TD5 90 CSW
Previous: Discovery TD5 ES (Gone)
