Oil Grades
I have found several posts out there on the different brands of oil but I am trying to find out a definitive answer on all grades for our Defenders, what I know so far is

1. Engine = 5W30 (meeting ford spec)
2. Diffs = 80W90
3. Transfer = 75W90
4. Gearbox = GL4

What I am trying to find out is what viscosity is the gearbox oil and whether GL5 is better than GL4?

Please correct me on any of the above, I want to be 100% sure that I and others that read this thread buy the right oil regardless of brand. I must admit I like to buy the more expensive synthetic brands but that isn't what I'm after here.

GL-5 is normaly only used in diffs but can be used in a gearbox if the vehicle specifies it.If you use it in a gearbox that requires GL-4 you will eat up your syncros with the additive that is in GL-5.Ford normaly uses 75W90. Puma 110 SW

Gearbox oil is Castrol BOT328 (BOT130 is superseded) and is a (fill for life =200.000km) synthetic 80-W90 GL4 and GL5 gearbox oil Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

it's quite difficult to buy on line............
