Gear lever rattle
Hi there
Do any of you have a bit of a gear lever rattle, especially when the engine is at lower revs (1700-2100) in 6th under a bit of strain (mostly going up inclines, etc).
Is this normal? What's the cause?

New gear stick assembly solved the problem - warranty work.

I had it done - its not the selector as such its the guide.

But when they broke the selector they fitted a new one. Problem is the new one is doing it...but a lot less.

It was in today and they cant get it to do it Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad but i can...just when they arent there. Mike

I'm wondering if they don't all do it (at least a little)?
I remember reading in the Owners Manual how important it is not to "hold" the gear lever - maybe there's supposed to be some movement?

me too
also had the same, I did complain about it but they never said on the repair sheet that they attended to it.

That being said, it has not yet re-occurred although it only happened on a very long haul once everything is nice and hot.

I will be testing mine again in a few weeks on a trip into the mountains again Very Happy

well, i took it in to the dealer and they replaced the gear lever assembly, and now it is so much better!

I get a humming noise when going up hills in 6th. It seems to" drone" but I can't seem to locate where the noise is comming from. Ralton, do you get yours serviced at LR Durban or Umhlanga as I reported it and nothing was done.

Having the same problem especially when speeding up it rattles, bought the issue up with my dealer while my car is in the LR garage, going to repair the rattle and its covered under warranty. Mr. Green '08 LR Defender 110
