Saving ecu map on nanocom as ".map" file

Hoping someone can help me with this. I am trying to save my ecu map on a nanocom one as a ".map" file but it will only let me save it as a tuning file. Does any one know how to save it as a ".map" file?

It cannot be done, Hugh, as tuned nanocom files are encrypted and locked to your vehicle.

If you can read your .tun file, then you've got a backup which can be re-applied to your car as many times as you like.

Thanks Gary. I was under the impression I needed a .map file as a backup. I have the .tun file saved on my laptop.

Sorry to hijack the thread...

Gary, are saying then, if i were to take a .tun file image of my ECU, this would be a complete "backup" of it, alarm settings/engine tune file/etc all in one?

would this include any modified tune file as well?

It would be a complete backup of the engine ECU calibration maps and software only. Configuration data such as Immobiliser code, Injector grades, Throttle type, etc are not stored within the .map or .tun files, but can be saved separetly.

Each .map or .tun file will hold one set of ECU calibration data only.

If i want to backup my mappings and try another stage1 map, how/what do i backup first with the nanocom evolution ?

This is a 1998 TD5 with a replacement 000120 ECU

Simply read the map file from the ecu, and Nanocom will save it as a .map or .tun file onto the SD card. You can then program whatever you like onto your ecu, and when you're done, and you want to re-install your saved map, simply select to write map file, or write tuning map file back onto the ecu.

Td5 can be immensely unreliable at programming, and so don't flash the ecu any more times than you need to.

Very much so!

hence my advice on not flashing it any more times than you need to. Once your tuning is on there, and you're happy with it, Leave it alone.

If your ecu does die during programming, you can send it into us and we can revive it, and apply your tuning map as well.

Yikes .....Now I'm scared......

Its not the original ECU as mine would have been an NNN (1998) it has been replaced at some point with a 000120, does that make it any better or worse Gary ?

Your original ECU would have had an MSB part number, possibly an MSB101170, which Land Rover could well have replaced as a recall. There is no real difference in the way the engine would run between an MSB and a NNN ecu, assuming it has the correct software programmed onto it.

If I try and backup the ecu map it comes up with a blank 'select folder' window.....I can't seem to do anything from that point, if I select continue, the backup starts then fails, any ideas anyone? Do I need some sort of folder structure?
