Is that standard td5? I have had around 420 once however more normal I'd 380 with a little light towing in that but with a tuned td5. Just had a disco box fitted so hoping to improve slightly.
Would be interested to know what's the best mods for improving mpg (a lighter foot is a given) |

Hi Sphere
Yes completly standard TD5 on tthe original fit General Grabbers. For the past year I was getting 24.5-25 mpg. My commute consisted of 1.5miles around town to the A41 then 9 miles at 60mph climbing the Chilterns then 1 mile round Tring to the office. However now we have moved the office to Mentmore I now have another 7 miles each way in the country lanes of the Vale of Aylesbury doing roughly 30-50 mph with little stopping. Its quite noticeable that the slower cruising for 30% of the journey has significantly rasied the mpg. I used to be happy to get 360 per tank, now I am getting around 400, and this is basically from yellow light coming, a full fill to first pump click, to yellow light. A couple of weeks ago I towed the caravan to Wales (holiday & ALRC Nats) doing 50-70 mph (only for overtaking ). On both journeys the mpg between fills was 24 mpg, while pootling round south wales for the interceding week I was back up to 26.75. I tend to use anti stall to pull off, generally accelerate gently, change fairly early.
I find if you are gentle you can pootle around town in 5th at 30mph quite happily. He who dies with the most toys wins Defender 90 & 110, S1 80", Disco 1, S111 88 LRSOC & CVLRC |

I find the same , mine is a 04 standard 110 crewcab . I only changed the intercooler ( bigger one ) and de-cat pipe , middle pipe . Not chipped ( yet ) . I run 33's on 10,5inch rims . With the standard rims / tyres I got on longer trips 30mpg at a speed of 55mpg . Going above that and it drops fast ... When I got the bigger intercooler she did 90mph no problem ( with the 33's ) . Two weeks ago I tried and 80 was the max ... I also find a diff re speed and mpg troughout the weeks . Wind , air temp etc all make a diff . Pulling a trailer I find makes no major diff's . Saying that I don't go above the 50mpg with the trailer empty or full . Hope that helps some of you ... Postmanpat |

I've changed my transfer box too, I got 34.9 mpg on my last tank, much better than it used to be. I've had it tuned, EGR removed, bigger intercooler, straight through exhaust, runs much better now and better fuel economy.

Last tank on my standard 04 90CSW Td5 was 33.1.
Long distance run though and rarely above 55mph. Usually get around 30ish on the local lanes. (ps.. The missus only gets about 24 from her 08 90CSW Tdci Puma) 04' 90 Td5 CSW.. |

Just been reading this thread for first time. Noticed that Will.i.Am was concerned that he wasnt getting anything like the same miles "from a tank" - but of course he wouldnt if he has a 90 as the tank is smaller than a 110!
Anyway, my reason for posting is just got back from a trip to the south west in my 90, fully laden with roof tent, winch, loads of kit, etc. Not had it on a weigh bridge yet but it must be pretty heavy! Pleased to say on 2 fills of the rear tank (and connected extra one in wheel arch) we got around 24.2 mpg. Pretty pleased with that as before we put the cage and and other mods best averages were in the 27s. Was getting a bit concerned about only getting 20ish but changed the MAF sensor before going away and it seems to have made a decent improvement. Fingers crossed! Pam W, which in-wing fuel tank have you got? I've been toying with getting one for a while. Does it feed your main tank automatically?
