screws lined up okay? did you use orininal speaker holes and screws? |

I wasn't expecting it to go as simply as everything lining up, but surprisingly they did - I used the same holes and screws. They could have been made for the job. The only thing I had to do was crimp a spade onto the connecting wire supplied in order to retain the original Land Rover speaker connectors incase I ever want to swap back. Peter

Hi MrFlips, do you know if the Alpine system is ok with the standard fit speakers (no power rating in the handbook for them) as funds are low and cannot afford new speakers just yet. Cogito ergo sum |

I imagine it would be very easy to blow the standard speakers with anything with a decent amount of power. I had to replace my speakers as one had totaly blown and the other was very much on the way just from using the standard stereo. Peter

Mr. Flip,

Hi Joe. I've got a truck cab, so only have the standard speakers underneath the dashboard (and standard tweeters). I replaced my standard speakers with Pioneer TS-G1002i speakers. (http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/25/131/201/TS-G1002i/index.html). They're fairly low priced at £29 a pair. Sound-wise the mid and high range is very good, and better than the standard speakers. In terms of bass they could do with a bit of help from a subwoofer if you are listening to very loud music, but on the whole I am very happy with them. Peter

Thanks for that valuable info on speakers, if it's a question of no-mods and the sound is better it's worth £29. I would probably need 4 as I have the 90 with front, rear and tweeters in the truck. I'll give it a try. Thanks for your help. regards Joe 'El pepe flamenco'  JLS

is it possible to have some speakers that are of the deeper type but with a smaller magnet would that help?

Hia Peter and 'Konabike',
Just fitted the rear and front speaker replacing the standard Land Rover speakers with the Pioneer TSG1002i. A doddle to fit front and rear - just fits in without mods. The sound quality when front and rear are done is remarkably improvement in sound! Much better mid, high and low range and added base to match. Takes 10 minutes to do a pair without wire changes. Totally recommend these affordable and great speakers. Now I can drive back from Gib through Spain to UK with reasonable 'sound'. Just replaced my standard ones yesterday with some 10cm co axial two-way JVC CS-V426 ones. Rear ones needed to be spaced a little as the grilles on the JVC ones are slightly bigger than the standard recesses, just used some plastic washers. No expert but a little mutton geoff as my missus keeps telling me happy with the end result and sound quality improvement and for less than £40. In layman's terms I can now crank up above 30 with no discernable distortion. The rear trim would have to be cut to accommodate your 6 X 9s Naks. Relatively easy and enough room I reckon. Whip the trim off and size up! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

thanks, found a solution. The chap who is doing the drawer system will also make 2 speaker housings, angled from the back bulkhead. Will post some pics when the drawer system is fitted |
