Hello Guys
Has anybody tried to make a square hole in the bottom of a puma to gain access to the top of the fueltank. I know it was done to the TD5 to get to the fuelpump. There is no fuelpump in the puma, but I have a leak and would like to avoid taking the tank down. What I am looking for is some measurements where to cut and what tool to use (how deep to cut without risk) Thank you in advance Morten |

I'd drop the tank personally. Safer and no 'butchery' that you have to fix/seal afterwards. If you've a leak the last thing you want to do is grind out a hole. Not a difficult task. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Been looking for photos I took when I did the above - to fit a fuel dip tube for an Eberspacher.
Its pretty easy to see under the arch where the fuel sender is and get a measurement from the rear edge of the floor, its front edge is approximately in line with the rear floor brackets for the rear seat. Its left hand edge is in line with the floor strengthening rib on the left. I very carefully (with a stop on the drill bit to prevent drilling too far through the floor) drilled a small slot to enable access then gently opened up the hole with aviation snips, a Monodex cutter would also work well. After the work on the sender, I simply cleaned the area well, then siliconed a patch of alloy plate over the top, can't even see the outline through the mat. Good luck Keith |

I've done it on a TD5 90, not sure how different that would be. As I had no idea what room I had between the tank and the floor at the time I got a piece of steel plate and slid it over the top of the tank as a shield.
As it turned out there was a lot more room between the floor and the tank than I'd expected in the area I was cutting. I started with a 50mm hole cutter roughly in the middle of where I thought I needed to be then used the angle grinder to cut the rectangle out. An angle grinder is a good option for cutting because it needn't go through the floor more than a mm or 2. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

Yes the measurements are correct for the td5 and Puma Mind that the measrements for the 90 are different from the 110. Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition IID Pro MV License |
