Check to see if the rubber insert on the bonnet hinge is missing. Also open the bonnet lift it up to open position and see if there is movement in it. If there is it is a missing or worn rubber insert. Had this on a new Puma and it was a dodgy rubber hinge insert. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

![]() ![]() You got it in one. I read your post, went out to the shed immediately, and 5 minutes later it was fixed. ![]() There was nearly 2mm of vertical movement in the closed position. The rubber insert seemed fine but I could jiggle the bonnet up and down and get the exact noise. Solved it by wedging a 1/2 inch long piece of zip tie into the gap. Now on 'the list' for the next dealer visit. Thanks again. ![]() |

I get this same knocking noise over rough ground....with a couple of tie wraps wedged in it goes away too. Does anyone know if the rubber inserts can be bought separate from the hinge.
Has anyone got another permanent fix for this problem...for example injecting a little silicone sealant somewhere.....not sure if all of the rubber spacers faces need to rotate/slip or can be fixed to one part of the hinge? |

Ive just fitted NAKATANENGAs aftermarket hinges and althought originally not convinced about them (hence why it took so long to do) I think they are great, they look smart and this is another problem they solve!. (interesting to see how well they last on those trucks that are used in harsh environments) DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Yes, they can. Usually known as hinge bushes, available from eBay or parts supplier of your choice. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |
