About to swap transfer box... speedo drive advice please?!!
I've taken the plunge and bought a Disco 1.2 transfer box for my Td5 which has 1.4, will I need a different speedo drive, keep the one fitted to the 1.2 or swap them over?
Any pointers to look out for or pitfalls?
Cheers in advance.

Keep the one that was in your 1.4, as the speedo drive is relavent for whatever tyre size you have.

the 1.2 from a disco would have (assuming he box came from a standard unmodified vehicle) a speedo drive for smaller tyres.

Remove the electronic transducer (which is also different between the disco and defender type) and the whole metal tube thing should (with a bit of levering) slide out, you can then change the drive gear and re-insert the unit with some copperslip on it.

Cheers Jim, just a quick and maybe daft question then...
What do I need to remove to get at the transfer box to make it easier - exhaust? tunnel? cross member? props? All of them?!!

The workshop manual mentions the intermediate pipe and muffer for the exhaust, and you'll have to suspend the driveshafts as nothing will hold them anymore Whistle

Removal and Installation on a Puma

The only tricky thing is not having the special lift, as the case is about 60kg...

Good luck Thumbs Up Chris
