Maybe it's not the same, but yes, I found mine to be a bit binary too, it's either cold or hot, not much in between. It's been like that from new, so I thought it was by design
i play with the other controls instead to get the temp I want. |

I had to have my heater control replaced a few months ago when it jammed solid. Apparently the control mechanism is a complete unit with the temp and direction controls integrated. It took a couple of hours to have the unit changed as it has to be calibrated once fitted. Bob |

Could very well be.
I thought it was a 5 minute swap over for the new unit but that is certainly not the case. The original broken unit just seemed to give boiling hot air or cold, the new calibrated unit has varying temps throughout the range. Bob |

mine has a cable operating the valve so I can't see how anything could be calibrated. Maybe ours are simpler here for our mechanics to undershtand .

I could be wrong but I think the calibration is of the cable and whatever controls the heat and flow.
I don't think it is an electronic calibration as such. Bob |

The cable is held in place by a little plastic clip. If it breaks the cable cannot be pulled by the lever as it just moves up and down with the lever. With the clip in place the outer sleeve is held rigid alowing the lever to move the cable in the sleeve to open and close the valveTo check visually, take the plastic covers off the levers. Remove the side dash by undoing the screws and sliding it off over the levers, and check that the cable is held tight. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Mine's exactly the same as above. Have become accustomed to it and with a little 'jiggery pokery' can get the temperature I desire. Only ever use the first third of the dial from cold to fully hot to get desired temperature. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Mine is just hot or cold with nothing in between and I know someone else who has the same.
