here's mine.
too young to remember. I understand my dad was expecting a new car with the rover v8 engine but they were in short supply so he never got his car in time to take us (family - mom, dad, brother & myself) on holiday. we were due to go to spain summer of c1973. holidays back then as was almost every year following that were in the caravan. so 1 family and 1 caravan but no car. so dad hires a land rover. from what I can gather this would have been 110 untility (or closest to this). 2 seats in the front and the rest of us in the back......I say the rest of us. because this land rover had extra seats someone obviously thought it would be fun to fill them..... so now heading off to northern spain via dover / calis was 1 caravan, 1 land rover and mom, dad, brother, aunt, x2 cousins, grandma and grandad I'm sure I don't need to go into detail but with a 2.25 diesel, caravan full of food, driver and 8 passengers progress over they pyrenees wouldn't have been quick....1st gear for most of it I'm told. 45mph on the flat yet we all survived to tell the tale. If I find any pictures I'll post them. |
