Post for BAS Pete.....

Pete, the reprogramming limit is valid for BAS remap too????

Hi, No this does not apply to the BAS remap interface you can program it as many times as you wish with my interface. Mr. Green

We think like landrover some times, but others times think better Smile

No problem parktag..

For info for all.

There is a limit for the IDS/SDD tool LandRover use as said, so i feel personally if your car drives good/ok without the new updates read about on the forum id personally not ask the dealer to do them.

Some times the forum is like follow my leader with things like this, one member gets it done as the rest of the members think they are missing out lol so they ask the dealer about it.

I always think like this, if LandRover have EG 15 times to reprogram your ecu before its full that is like a cat with 15 lifes. If you use those lifes up just because you want to follow my leader then when you most need them they are gone and you are then without a car untill landrover get you a new ecu.
IF they are available because all the following sheep are now in the same boat as you !!

Basicly id not ever ask for a update i know about from the forum UNLESS my car had problems or it was demanded i have it done by landrover them selfs.

I dont know why LandRover program the ecu like they do adding records because there is really no need unless they have other reasons. Or may be they want to sell lots of ecus when pumas are 7 or 8 years old and out of warranty !
Ive proved my tool does not leave a trace by removing the 144pin PQFP processor from the ecu pcb before a flash and again after ive programed it many times, this lets me compare the data differences and there as i wanted was none Mr. Green

If It's Not Broke Don't Fix It!
I didn't have the foresight to have one of BAS's upgrades, I wasn't a member of this site at the time and knew no difference! Things may have been different! Nevertheless as mentioned before I have an Autologic Remap that I am happy with and the difference to standard was amazinig! My engine runs and performs faultlessly! I have not had the previous two Land Rover upgrades due to the overwriting of my remap! I would undoubtedly if having a standard set up would have joined the stampede to get the upgrade for three main reasons; It's free, it may make my Defender perform like a Ferrari, I don't know any better!
Pete as a 'man in the know' are you implying that it is better not to have it done? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Hi

Its just my opinion, but as said if my car was running good and i was not demanded by landrover that i must have a update i would not have any at all. Why play with a perfeclty good car with no problems id be asking my self.

Just as your car proved really, you have a remap on and have missed 2 updates and it still runs good ! Why change.

Pete

I'm With You On This One!
Pete,

Good points and well opinionated! I'm totally with you on this one! this could just be my suspicious nature but what better way of creating revenue than utilising all available programmable slots on a piece of very expensive equipment whilst under warranty and then owners being expected to pay for a replacement due to this fact at a later date! Just a supposition of course! Good revenue generator though! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Well Pete every time my landy as gone in for a patch its been perfect before....but to be honest the last patch has been better / smoother i think now its had the 5th... knowing now that it will only take certain amounts of patches and now with you're knowledge LR can now leave it well alone, i think i'll be after a remap soon as this standard map is Sh!t NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. After my truck threw a wobbler on Monday night and put the engine light on and P1169 fault code I booked it in for its 1st visit back to a dealer since I took delivery in October.

The Q068v5 patch seems to have sorted it out but I will need to drive it from properly cold a few times to be totally sure that I can't replicate the loss of power when accelerating.

Initial impressions are that it seems to pull more smoothly through the gears but as I've only done 5 miles I'll reserve judgement for now.

Just for those that hadn't spotted my previous post:

http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic2455.html

It's been waiting at the dealers for 3 days now while I wait for them to fit a new EGR valve that they think will fix the problem. Before the software update my Landie was fine (48k miles) and now it judders the transmission severely when coming off the throttle (any gear). I hope they prove me wrong with the EGR but it ran fine before the update and I can only assume the EGR was faulty then? If that doens't fix it I'll ask them what version of Q068 has been installed.

Fingers crossed Crying or Very sad

Like K9F and Pete I took the view that if it's working then leave well alone - I have an Autologic remap and when it went into the dealer recently for a service I told them not to upgrade the ecu software - caused a few raisEd eyebrows but they were fine with it!

Had the 2-year service on my Apr/May 2008 90 XS SW yesterday and this Q068 Recall was applied - the authorised repairer didn't provide much info on what the issue was, and it was news to me as I'd not received any letter from anyone. Fortunately I came here and downloaded the full LR documentation and am now fully informed. I'll probably get a QA call from Land Rover sometime in the future asking my opinions on the service, and I will comment that they should issue the customer with a single page summary of what the Recall was about and what work has been done so you can add it into your own service history records. My gripe each service is also that I have to ask for a photocopy of the Maintenance Check Sheet for my records, which should be given by default.

I've never seen this Q068 effect on my truck fortunately. Trevor Wright
