Documented fuel consumption figure?
Hi all

Does any body have detailed documented, i.e. excel, fuel consumption figures for a TD5 defender around 2006. Would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

I can share with you my experiences from the last 3000 miles or so, as I track MpG on every fill up. If this helps, mine is a 2003 td5 110 dcpu. Let me know if you want my stats.

The recent low point was towing a horse trailer, in very strong headwinds.

I'm a complete anorak about this stuff and have kept records for all of my Land Rovers for years. Here's my record for my current '05 TD5 (click to make it more readable):

It's obviously an Excel spread sheet, but I can't attach a file so this is just a screenshot.

Towards the bottom you'll see that I've been experimenting with BP Ultimate, which has been slightly disappointing. It's certainly not justified for me from a cost perspective. I'm now trying regular BP to see what difference there is (if any). Darren

Here is my data recorded since November.

110 td5 with roof rack and 235 all terrains and a winch. Other than that totally standard. This is recording virtually all urban driving of trips less than 10 miles. And it is really hilly round here.

The graph is a little pointless as there are only 6 fill ups recorded!

There's been a few threads on this topic in the past....

My post on a previous similar thread was....

Quote:
Have tracked mine on an iphone app since March 2011. Average is 29.2 over just over 20k miles.

No heavy towing, hardly any long runs. Mostly just rural'ish round trip commutes of 50 miles and general pottering around. Tend to drive it with reasonable mechanical sympathy (in my eyes at least), which must help the mpg.

Remap & EGR removed, 235/85 AT's, Roof rack. Little bit of extra weight from tread plate and under body guards I guess. 2SO every other tankful. I don't think this makes any difference to MPG other than a small amount of diesel displacement. Only had one month of tracked stats pre remap and I've gained 1-2mpg as a consequence but I just view that as a small bonus.

Under 'normal' (define that as you will) conditions, I've assumed a td5 typically returns something in the upper mid 20's. Much below that on a regular basis would make me dig around a bit further, or at the very least, drive it like a nun for a tankful as a control experiment.

Updated figures now 29.1mpg over 24.5k miles in just over 2 years of tracking the data Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless.

I am using road trip hd, full version. It was only a couple of quid.

It has managed to turn me in to a super nerd, rather than just a nerd. You can record servicing and modifications and create new files for different trips.

All this is then handily converted in to annual running costs. Just don't show the results to swmbo Whistle

Ha just looking at that app... Is it intuitive to use?

Yes. Really straight forward, although I get the feeling I have only scraped the surface of what it can do.

A nice little feature are the reminders you can set, MOT, service intervals etc. this really helps me as I service my own car so I don't do everything at once. For example, I changed the gearbox oil and set the reminder for a given time period or mileage from that date.

Sounds good to me Jim... Be good to track my upcoming tour through Europe I think and also the various vehicles on the farm too Smile
