So, can I fit a "proper" aluminium bonnet to my puma? I prefer the td5 bonnet rather than the "bulge".

Only if you cut a big hole in it to clear the top of the engine. Then you'd have to fabricate a bulge to cover the hole! |

I've always been interested in the RDX bonnet: has anybody a photo of it installed on a "standard" Land?

You do get to see a fair few Tdi/Td5 'suspect' LR's on Ebay complete with a new bulgy bonnet and there are a good few sellers of both Puma bonnets and doors it seems too.
Indeedy, and any that are spotted tend to be either PM'd to me or posted on LandyWatch and then in turn sent over to AVCIS for them to consider and act. Folks can either send any they spot directly to plod on the following email address or PM them to me and I can forward. (non clicky to avoid spamming) Main issue seems to be that AVCIS either don't act or if they do, don't give any decent feedback so that we are encouraged to keep reporting. This may have something to do with a recent cut in numbers in their rural crime division.... I have given them a couple of recent chasers for some general feedback but to date, nothing.... clearly frustrating for all Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless. |

Thank you Gum In my country the "old school landers" use to say that the Puma bonnet makes it look more like a car and less like a 4x4; this bonnet makes it look like an "offroad muscle car".. I like it "Porthos" Defender 90 td4 santorini black - Winter is Coming |

That's the thing, a lot of it is all about 'looks' and probably does more for the ego of the owner than impress anyone else. The tart 'em up Defender accessory market is a relatively recent phenomenon, those of us old enough to have actually been driving Series, 110's and 90's years ago instead of having boyhood wet dreams about them will recall when the various varieties of imported white spoke wheels, bullbars and other trinkets started trickling onto the market mostly inspired by things that had been going on in the U.S. & Oz for years.
As I say the trend to turn what is a basic utility and agricultural based vehicle into a lifestyle, trendy thing is pretty recent. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

From an old thread......
The 'power bulge' as I see it has functionality over form and as such the aesthetics make it attractive to others. This is nobody's fault. The demand is there through 'default and development.' Maybe this is 'one for Kelly' to suggest making the next generation of Defender so pig ugly or so bland and even more box-like than it already is that nobody would be interested in stealing any of the parts for piece-part spares. The fact it's been around for so long and so many have been sold makes it an attractive target for thieves stealing and/or the taking of spares. I can't see the situation getting any better soon can anyone else? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Haha, got all excited when I saw 3 pages of replies to a wanted ad, I did get a few useful comments and suggestions but otherwise a bunch of people saying how they prefer old ones!..... tbh I couldn't give a F*@K, I like the newer ones. So moan elsewhere
And FYI you can buy security bonnet hinges for your defender. So....... has anyone on here got one for sale or know for someone with one available? Thanks. 1988 Defender 110 County 300tdi Chancer |

Probably not so far or you'd have had one offered. Give it time though.
