We have a Honda which is now six years old, it is used for approx 4-5 hrs a week during the cutting season, never had a problem just had to fill it with petrol.. they also come with a seven year warranty.
Awesome piece of kit you pay for what you get, buy cheap pay twice! You only have one life, live it....forget the cost.

Have a look at TORO or LAWNFLITE Professional range. They are pricey, but very good quality. I have the LawnFlite which during the season will cut for approx. 10 hours every other weekend and has not given me a problem.

Plastic deck, lasts for ages. use them at work all day long, so 4.5 hrs once a week is nothing

my dad did his apprenticeship with qualcast and worked for ATCO for some time fixing various members of the royal families mowers, he was also self employed in the mower fixing trade for about 6 years. He swore by honda and in particular thier engines and said he would not buy anything else if it was for commercial use, As a kid I clearly remember him doing work for a ground maintenance company who had 24inch ATCO cylinder mowers with roller seats these mowers worked hard and needed cylinder regrinds and bottom blades several time a year , the Techumski (may be spelt wrong) engines lasted about 1 year before they were knackered, they were replaced with Honda GX engines that just needed a plug, air filter and oil every year after that . For domestic use where a mower is only used for about 1 hour per week most mowers will last years Briggs engines are generally reliable and parts are cheap, watch out for chinese engines that break and you cant get parts for. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

I don't think you want to be cutting for as long as 4 hours per cut with something as small as a 17"! If you've got that much grass, I'd go for something considerably bigger. It'll save loads of time and won't wear out as quickly.

Whoever suggested Viking to you knows what they're talking about. They are indeed the lawncare arm of Stihl, and are about as good as you can get. Be prepared for the prices though as they're not cheap.

Pete
