On my 2009 110 the rear pads were changed at 40k km. Today the truck has 61k km, and the original front pads still are ok.... I don't understand this because think the front brakes suffer more than the rear. With most cars the front disks are larger than the rear disks for good reason. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Just had to change my original rear pads yesterday at 37,500miles.
Towing, and what you are towing does have a major impact on rear pads as the braking has to be biased to stop jack-knifing. I wouldn't rely on the dealer sorting it out as they are more than likely going to stick to the story they have already given you. If you can do it, it would be an idea to try and do some heavy towing up and down hills with 'gentle' braking. After a 1000-2000miles take the pads out and measure the thickness of the pads to see the nature of the wear. They will wear slightly more on the front end, but shouldn't be too much of a difference. Depending upon what you find in all the measurements the information should enable an accurate diagnosis. Armed with physical evidence and an independent report your dealer should struggle to get out of it if it is a LR problem. |

Once mine changed at 20K miles on the clock both front and rear with mintax but noticed specially the rear one was badly worn even cutting the disk. So had to re-phase it. Then after another 15k miles found only rear one has worn with metal to metal scenario. This time couldn't afford the mintax so fixed it up with a taiwan rear set. Now i am getting that LR typical braking whistle noise from the rear and guess due to the odd set fixed but without compromising the braking perfomance. I will see how long I can live with it!

Fitted what I believe to be the second set of rear pads to mine last week at 116k miles.

Just fitted a new set to the front of mine, last set did 40k miles only reason I've put a new set in is because the inner pad on the offside was down to the metal, the other was just about half worn where as the nearside were both half worn. I put down some of the uneveness of wear between wheels down to the traction control but not on the same caliper, that's sticking pistons.

Join the brake pad club guys. I am on my second Puma HCPU 110 same story with brake pads specifically the rear set. Farming my average speed is about 5 kph, water and mud very little, on average I replace the rear sets at about 4500km, fronts every 20000, unacceptable to me as my 90 and Freelander just go on and on. Was told by a dealer and LR South Africa to service daily as I was abusing the vehicle. Took umbrage and made a fuss, LR SA changed the booster and master cylinder. I managed 16000km on a harder compound, so now I just live with it........... pwgg

Rears changed at 50k km's, fronts still original at 95k km, very little towing, though.

Well you guys are lucky. In this district 4 Defender 110 HCPU have the same problem, we just suck it up and replace them but one guy has already dumped the brand.. pwgg

Just done mine @ 7yo and 29K and the old ones were as good as the new ones although the rear inside pad was VERY tight in the caliper. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..
