looks like normal rattle can paint to me. id rub down your crossmember and then use red oxide primer, then topcoat it with whatever takes your fancy, including this stuff. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated  |

I have used Plastikote on several items including window catches, A-bar brackets, Patriot roof rack brackets etc...I have also used it's own primer. Several coats can be applied in quick succession with only 15 minute intervals between applications. With good coverage and preparation you will get a good durable finish. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I'd rub down and clean any grease or muck off of it. Use E-tech acid etch primer. If you want a really glossy finish sand down the primer lightly with wet and dry paper (fine) or if not so worried by the glossy side leave it. I'd use Simoniz gloss black for base 2 coats and 2 coats of Simoniz clear lacquer to finish it all off. All of these items are available for E-bay and not too expensive. All in £15 - £20 I suppose.

I recently did my front bumper with Plasti-kote. I used the zinc primer first as this was recommended on their website for areas of heavy corrosion.
The finish is excellent, but ignore their advise on preparation... I sanded down the outside with a belt sander and got rid of most of the existing paint and rust. Obviously I couldn't do this on the inside so just used a wire brush and some wet/dry paper. What I found was that the primer worked well on the outside, but actually made some of the old paint peel off in the inside. This may just be a property of the zinc primer, but the point is make sure the surface is well rubbed down. Excellent, many thanks. Ive applied the Plastikote Metal Proteks directly to some new parts, but for the older scratched parts Ill get some primer to apply first.

Ironically I'm spraying the rear wheel security plate for my Landy today with Plastikote......

Ive just done my new 2 pin adjustable tow slider, along with Maxxraxx bike rack mounting plate.
So what makes Plastikote different from any other spray paint. Or isnt it? |

Other people must think so too. At the self checkout I had to get the assistant to negate the 'over 21' age request so I could pay for it. At nearly 52 I felt quite chuffed I'd been asked for proof of age. Even if it was by a machine...... If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Mal - You should actually try being 21 and trying to buy some. You get treated like a criminal even with ID.  Saying that depends on the checkout operator if it's a human one and not an automated one. Does my head in!
