egr and barking up the wrong tree
have mercy on me......

is anyone selling the egr blanks anymore and do they fit the modified 2.4 egr?

the reason I ask is after Ian kindly sorted my injector and pump calibrations out for which I'm absolutely sure they was a marked improvement I'm still left with what I believe to be something thats operating inconsistently.

easy was to describe this (and I've had it since day one.....or as long as I can remember......hmm that don't mean much as I often can't remember what I did the day before).....anyway, its this. sometimes when pulling away in 1st gear everything is great......picks up lovely, quickly and smoothly. other times its like the hand brake is still on, the vehicle feels more like its 5 ton and a struggle to pick up?

the other tell tell is the other end of the scale - 6th gear and the car pods along at low revs with virtually no injector knocking noise, just the 'buzz' of the induction noise, yet other times its a struggle with significant injector knock?????

could it be the egr isn't shutting fully? was planning on disconnecting the egr but obviously if isn't not shut fully this isn't gonna help. I'm fully aware of it being me and with this in mind I'm absolutely sure this isn't the case.

any suggestions and can I get a blank to put the egr theory to bed?

many thanks

As far as I am aware, function of the EGR valve is checked each start up and if the test is not passed a DTC code is logged and eventually the Engine Management Light comes on. I have never heard, myself, of an EGR valve malfunctioning as you describe. If you get a Scanguage, or equivalent , this would show the functioning of the EGR valve as live data. If you just want to blank off the exhaust manifold to EGR pickup pipe (easy - just 2 nuts/studs) to see if performance picks up, I think K9F has one he might lend you if you ask nicely Whistle Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

I know this is probably a silly question but could your handbrake cable or transmission brake shoes be binding? Mine got stuck and the shoes rattle around like hell, even after LR tried to fix them twice Rolling Eyes Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Wait until you switch off and get the 'chuka chuka chuka' of the cleaning cycle, (which I think it should mean its cleaning itself and is sealing shut) then pull the plug off the egr.

You will get the check engine light on, but the egr will be closed.

Worked for me until Ian did his magic.

He won't want to put on the MIL for the sake of it though unless he's also capable of clearing it at the same time (has a diagnostic tool) He may well do but if not and it gets put on it's about a £35 charge at a garage just to have it plugged in and wiped. Not sure I'd want to pay that just for a quick test. As you can buy a diagnostic tool capable of clearing the MIL for that. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I was sure mine was playing up, sometimes got the CCC other times not, performance and fuel economy (can you use that phrase in a 110?) were all over the place, I did what I suggested above and it made a marked improvement!

As long as you have a clearing tool to switch off the light, its an easy thing to try, I ran like that for about 8 months, cleared the code before running into the MOT bay, all was good in the Shire.

Ah, you are indeed correct there it should go out if there is no issue present once connected. I'm thinking of when I had issues with mine but I actually had my EGR causing DTC's so a different issue. EGR stuck closed believe it or not. Shame it constantly kept the MIL on. Could have stayed closed. Whistle $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Caterham,

We are all so worried about your mental health & the health of your pride and joy, we will do all we can to ease your mind!

Plus you do seem to have had more than your fair share of grief.

I found out that mine had been rebuilt before I bought it by a bunch of pikeys and eastern European wallies, I was not impressed and it took a lengthy court battle to get money back.

From reading others peoples trials and tribulations, it looks like my pikey trader probably subbed the repairs out to the local Land Rover main dealer!

I've had mine from new so I hope not ( Shocked ) - but that said ( Neutral ) nothing would suprise me........

always wondered why 'all of a sudden there was one 'ready' for me ' with only half the anticipated wait?

'I found mine had been rebuilt....' - thats hardly going to help my state of mind Laughing

The pilot correction would have probabally not passed its tests if the egr was stuck open, also as said if the egr clean cycle failed it would not pass non tested and then tested dtc's and would flag a fault code.

as part of the clean cycle the egr reports back its postion to the ecu so it must be closing. if it worrys you, you could ask Ian to do an egr dynamic flow test and this should answer once and for all but i suspect its probabally ok and nothing to do with what noise you keep reporting.

Turn the radio up and just forget the cars mechanics for a few months, it seems to be your life finding faults with it hehe Thumbs Up
