Wayne,

We did the dynamic test a while ago - and it passed, but not a problem to run it again.

To see if the EGR is suffering leak past, you could remove the hose from the inlet manifold (the stainless steel bit that bolts to the inlet manifold), and have a look how sooted up it is... If the EGR is leaking then the soot build up will be substantial.

firstly thanks for the response Ian.

so just to get this right....

disconnet the stainless steel pipe section with the egr sensor in it that sits between the plastic inlet manifold and inter-cooler rubber pipe?

Sorry... Yes... but just remove the rubber/silicon pipe from the intercooler where it goes into the stainless steel inlet. Shine a torch up your orrifice and have a look for sooty despoists (or excessive soot build up).

Also, have you tried running some two stroke oil with the fuel? Especially as you run on that funny stuff Laughing

Ian,

I've not dared using that funny stuff (not on the defender at least - the wifes 1.9 tdi golf on the other hand been running on stuff for the last 4 years) since I first met you - didn't want the defender going in for warranty work with a tank of funny fuel if something went wrong.

been using the 2 stroke and its as if I get a slug of 2so and everything is smooth and nice and then the next thing it feels like a big slug of fuel/water and things are rough?

I'm gonna start draining the fuel bowl off on a very regular basis see it that does anything.?

gonna go check my phone now as I've got a photo somewhere of the egr sensor with soot on it but not sure how good the photo is and where you draw the line between substantia soot build up and normal.....I've since cleaned the egr sensor.

found it....not sure if its much use tho.....

Thats' pretty gunked up...

I've be inclined to clean the MAP at least - or replace.

Unfortunately, with your 'miss daisy' driving style, your EGR will be active nearly all of the time. Only closes fully at full throttle (as well as at different temps)...

You could blank or remove the EGR - but this also needs to be done in the software, as it a major change to the air path calculations.

Part Number is LR022164 £113.62 - MAP sensor

Is yours still as per picture? As that is pretty gunked up. I'd be inclined to clean it first with brake cleaner or similar (carefully). Being gunked up will affect quite a few part of the engine calibration (pressure and temp).

can't recall how well it cleaned up. I'll have to have a look.

with it being gunked up is there likely to be a problem (other than my driving style) - is another trip to the dealers req'd ?

At £113 Shocked - I'm inclined to think .......WARRANTY !

what they gonna brake this time Big Cry

aha - words of wisdom from MOG - knock current dealers on the head and go find somewhere else.....GS, coventry.

I see a trip to halfords for some egr, brake cleaner or similar on the cards for tonight.

thank you.

having just pulled myself up off the floor

Thud

how comes the MAP sensor is £113 and the MAF sensor is like £20 - or have I got that wrong ?

me thinks I might be on the road to recovery.......could this MAP sensor (along with gear box, ecu, input shaft etc) be the problem I've have all along?

.......It can't be cos it must have been clean originally? Confused
