Single din radio unit with seperate screen
I was wondering if anyone ever seen a single din unit with a seperate screen.

What I exactly mean is this: you have these single din units with the pop-out screen but they obstruct the dash buttons behind. Are there no single din units with a seperate screen?

If so I would just create a flip holder on the roof, maybe on a ball (like the outside mirror units) so I can even turn it facing me.

Another solution as to have a full unit somewhere in the car that can be controled by seperate touch screen and have no unit in the single din slot at all (make it into a cubby box or something) and again put the add-on screen on the roof.

I've also seen these double din facias but I've heard some reservations concerning the viewing angle.

Perhaps easier to relocate or duplicate the switches ?

I've put the two switches I use most to the outside positions and duplicated the Hazard switch into the centre cubby box console

Nearly all DVD single DIN HU's have video and audio out to connect to Aux items such as screens many are splitt-able even so for example DVD HU in dash with monitor open or closed either way playing a DVD or other Video source but say you could have two TFT screens on the rear of headrests or a larger on on the roof or indeed the lot is probably possible. Pure pointless extravagance IMO to go quite that far really IMO but perfectly possible and does look good once done. Very attractive to steal though also. As Steve suggests, maybe add an extra screen.

Get one with a flip out screen and connect extra screen (quite cheap) then you have the choice of which one to look at.

The flip outs only really impact the hazard lights switch and rear screen wipe/heated screen so not a major issue. Most work quite happily with the screen shut for usual radio/cd/ipod music, you'll only need the screen for satnav/dvd/prettiness

Could be a good move, you could then have say satnav on one and reverse camera on the other (or any combination) as long as the headunit allows you to select output to rear/auxilary screen.

Maybe a single din with pop-out screen for sat nav would just do. Never thought you only need to pop it out for satnav.
I have a dual din my other car and never really use the buttons on it but touch the screen. Was thinking the same is true for pop-out systems.

Concerning theft the proposed setup would enable me to flip it away from view so the main unit wouldn't look so high tech (last proposal doesn't even have a unit in view).

Concerning rear view cams I m thinking of a seperate stand alone always on setup (see mod roofbox in tdci section).

Basically I really only need radio - usb - phone-connection - satnav to work over the speakers. Have the ability to watch movies on my other system but rarely do, so that's not really necessary. A 7" screen is quite ergonomic to use though.

Couple of choice's I'd recommend either what DJ has (Hopefully he'll tell you the model) Or the new version of mine. The Kenwood KVT-526.

This is my KVT-729 pictured below.

do they do one of these where the screen comes out and goes down instead of up? im thinking of getting one of those new mud roof consoles and so obviously it would need to tilt down otherwise it would hit the roof!

I highly doubt you can. If you wanted that kind of set up how about a larger screen that flips down?? A roof mounted one rather than a HU. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I saw a couple where the screen was below when I was looking for mine, but I think they were angled up towards the driver. Not a known brand though..

Probably made of Chinese rice paper then if not a known brand. Neutral
It'll also be quite low so not very good to look at similar to the double DIN issues of the screen angle being not very good compared with the drivers positioning. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Screen and radio unit not related but it does show te idea. Only I would put the screen on the roof in a flip box so you can flip it out of sight.
