It has taken over 5 years of ownership, but at last I now have the defender I want.
I have modified numerous cars. Each have achieved what I wanted, but also tend to have a down side which comes as a consequence of Tinkering. I now have responsibilities and most my money is donated to there sponsorship. I have been quite happy with my 90 running a stage 1 JE tune for 4 years. Having decided she's staying for a good few years, I wanted to give her a new lease of life, a few mods have happened, but a re tune was also desirable. I was not chasing numbers, but looking for drivability whilst retaining reliability.
I started researching, using members experiences and recommendations through this forum (which is what a forum is for ) and a short list drawn up. Some are sponsors and some not. I then contact them all asking for their recommendations, listening to there advice and opinions. It then came down to gut instinct Who did I like the sound off, was it a sales pitch, did they appear interested etc etc.
Alive ticked all the boxes, Gary and Bens advice matched, independent of each other, they focused on what I wanted to achieve and not selling something extra, Always had time to talk things through, and allow you to join them in the workshop on the tools.(if you want)
I arrived yesterday (after a 3 hour drive) and had a really good day. It was refreshing in this day and age to just get on have a crack and talk BO******S. Nothing was too much trouble, all questions answered fully, and focused on what I was trying to achieve.
The results are AMAZING. Gary adjusted the map several times whilst on test drive and has basically given me something Bespoke to me, my needs wants and diving style. He also gave me an uncomfy ride home as my wallet still had considerably more money left in it than I anticipated
I cannot comment on other tuners of which I have no experience.
If you want exceptional customer service, great interaction and confidence with your tuner, provided with necessary modifications and ultimately YOUR ultimate tune Then Garys is your man.
Even if you had to stay a night in a hotel in order to visit You will not be disappointed.

Its sublime
Decat (Allisport ) and currently a bullet type center box (my old box was like a colander ). Looking at going back to a standard box as a bit boomy for me. The decat is the important/ restrictive one. the centre box is not that restrictive.
