The Caterham Scale of Frustration
As a bit of fun, I'd like to propose a standard scale of frustration with JLR and its dealers, based on a certain member's recent experiences:

Zero on the scale indicates full satisfaction with the work/service, whilst 10 means wanting to drive the Censored ing vehicle through the wall into their main office and then walk away, leaving it behind.

Happily, I'm only on 3 at the moment Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Rolling with laughter

love it - fame at last.

10

to be honest I'm fairly happy at the moment although I'm not sure why? I've got a free service provided as part of the package for all my troubles however I may be asking for the materials so I can do it myself b 4 anything else gets screwed up !

I also have an extended 1 years warranty but need to be sure I can take it to any other dealers should I need to ??

within reason I'm down to start tinkering as and when spare time allows to sort the damn thing out myself - I'd like to think it'll be a proper job that way Confused

I hope to see plenty of 1's but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Vehicle- 0 (Love it as much now as the day I picked her up -nearly 4 years ago).

Peterbrough LR- 5 (purchased from them- OK customer services- terrible technicians)

Ripon LR- 0 (great dealership)

Paderborn LR, Germany- 0 (great dealership)

Limassol LR, Cyprus- 10 (wouldn't even let them be in the same room as my Defender).

Vehicle 10 (be honest, even the worst Korean- or Indian-assembled vehicle is of better build quality than a Defender)

JLR Customer Service 1 (helpful with Emergency Key Access code query and my Station Wagon being registered as a DC)

DVLA Swansea 1 (help with a personal import and the above-mentioned SW/DC problem)

And, credit where credit’s due, a full-on zero for Hunters in Norwich. Not the cheapest, but I don’t mind paying a little extra for their service, friendliness and (reasonable) efficiency. Hope I haven’t jinxed it!

Vehicle = 1
Only negative is that the rear passengers get frozen feet in the winter and there is no easy solution for this.

Dealer = 1
Pretty happy with my local Geneva dealer, Autobritt, where the truck was bought and gets serviced. Only reason why they do not get a solid 0 is that as every main dealer they work really by the book, and a Defender often requires some more creative thinking. But I have learned that it is up to myself to properly discuss things with them and then agree on actions to be taken.

By the way, I thought that "The Caterham Scale" was a good find, but it appears that you guys had already someone who thought of that name before, somewhere in Surrey that is. Plagiarism? Whistle

Strastones Solihull - 10 they messed me about for almost 18 months, lied and tried to wangle their way out of repairs.
Stratstones Stockton 8 tried, but never solved the issue with the gearbox in my D3. Caught them on the Blackview airing their views on customers and staff alike.
Oh and Ripon LR (9) took my D3 to the shops during a test drive

I'm thinking Caterhams and Defenders don't mix.....

for a laugh thought I'd mention my last defender (score Cool.

was looking to buy one circa 2008/9 and couldn't afford a new one so settled for nearly new. I suspect now they got rid of it because they couldn't sort the problem. it had only done a couple of thousand miles. 'knowing' defenders are like tractors (thats what everyone had told me) so I was non the wiser. anyhow took it to stratstone solihul for a service. got it home only to find they'd revised it into something (rear corner bent in slightly). so decided to have a good look around - would appear they'd had some oil can on the wing top (circular oily mark plus scratches where they couldn't be bother to even put it down / pick it up carefully) Evil or Very Mad

Ironically the bump to the rear wasn't too much of a problem as the next night I reversed off my drive straight into a parked car opposite (almost righting it off Embarassed )

any how after finding out about the drain on the fuel filter and the problems some were having thought I should check this out. next day 1 mile down the road it broke down ! panic - before I could call LRA I had to do something about all the bio in the tank Whistle when they did turn up it was simply because some muppet had tighted the fuel drain point up properly and hence air lock in fuel line.

had the abs sensor problem and a drop into limp mode litterally day before it was sold !

any how after local LR confirmed all was well (after very extended test drive) private dealer was not impressed with how rough the engine was and took it to his local who ended up replacing fuel sensor and injectors ! hmm.?

Well - I'm down one point to 2 for the vehicle as, with the help of a Nakatanenga gasket, I managed to bolt on the turbo and it doesn't leak (yet). The sheer joy of doing something that LR dealers repeatedly failed to do has made me go all fuzzy inside Wink

However, the dealers have now gone up to 5, as they really should be more competent than me Evil or Very Mad Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

0 and 10.

0 for the car....yep thats right !!! Very Happy

Shocked I've shocked myself..........just hope I've not spoken too soon (again).

10 for the moorons at the LR dealership for having 2 years to fix a problem and not (well actually create more problems).

any how its early days but gave the MAP sensor a right good clean last night with carb cleaner, left it to dry out, contact cleaner on the elec connection (will be doing this on all the elecy plugs I can find for good measure) and put back together.

only moved the car on the drive last night and it ran perfect. 8 miles to works this morning and ran.....perfect Very Happy

well almost perfect the low fuel light did come on ..... but to be fair that was at 461.9miles Laughing

There's a lot of forum posts on dirty MAPs - for all makes of cars. You'd think they'd design them better Rolling Eyes
