Coil Springs Compatibility
Hi there,

I purchased a set of new coil springs for my D90, described as NTO from a vendor. When I received them there were two pairs, one pair color coded "Blue/White" the other pair "Green/Yellow".

From my research it seems that each corner should have a different color, and these specific color combinations aren't necessarily coils that came from a D90.

This is my source: http://www.red90.ca/rovers/springinfo.html

The vendor will take them back, but I have to pay to ship, which will be expensive. Do you think these color combinations will work on my V8 D90, or should I take it as a lesson and send them back and get proper coils?

Thanks for the help.

I believe that towards the end of tdi they stopped with handed springs so two pairs of matched sounds right. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Thanks - if that's the case it's a load off my mind.

It's not unfortunately. I don't know for sure about 2007 on, but up until then Defenders were still leaving the factory with sided springs, and to my understanding still do.

Having said that, running with matched pairs on each axle is ok. The ones you've been supplied seem quite low in load rating. You may find that it rolls a bit more and you have more pitch and dive with these too. In addition, if you load up the rear quite a bit then 170lbs on rear is again quite low. Probably get a nice supple ride if paired with the right shock.

Cheers

Steve

I'm re-opening this post as I'm still having trouble determining if I have the correct coils for my truck.

I compared the color codes on my coils to the published color codes around the web and have determined (unless my method of measurement is incorrect) that the specs of my coils do not match the published color code specs.

Like this site: http://www.landroverclub.net/Club/HTML/Spring_rates.html

I notices one set of coils has a Britpart sticker on it, I sent them an email, but who knows if I'll ever hear back.

The Green/Yellow ones are about 15.5" tall, and have about 8 or 9 coils. The outer diameter is 6" and the inner is 4 3/4"
(the reference guides say this color combo should be 16.2" tall and have 7.0 coils)

The Blue/White ones are taller, about 16.5" tall and have 8 or 9 thinner coils. The outer diameter is 5 13/16" and the inner is also 4 3/4"
(the reference guide says this color combo should be 16.44" tall and have 7.55 coils)

Also, between the two pairs, there is nothing that would say "Driver or passenger" by means of differentiation.

Thanks so much if anyone out there is well versed in these things.

I would have a word with the vendor again as if they have got a britpart sticker on them they are definitely not new take offs. 1997 Ex-MOD 110, Pop Top Camper, build thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72352.html
