Watching with interest. It's one of those 'gadgets'. Yet I always check it in the Audi and often wander when I'm in the 90.

Not sure about quality......but it's VDO so should be good. |

Take a look at the Mobile Centre website
I've fitted one of their digital temperature read outs to the FCX 130, pictures on my 130 thread |

Problem I've always had with the add-on sensors in any car I've tried them is not the quality of the gauge, it's not difficult to make a temp probe, but it's where to put it to be accurate.
Temp drops when driving and rises when stopped. Be interested to know where folks have placed their sensors. Manufacturers normally place them low down at the front of the car. Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |

OBDCII readers use the vehicles temperature sensor, a nanocom would work fine on a td5

That's the one I got installed from the dealer instead of the oem clock, fits neat and looks better than the usual lcd-displays as it's looks as if it has allways been there ![]() Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() |

Yes Craig, was hoping to pick up some probe positioning info'. Needs to be in the open but out of airflow I suppose? Wind chill factor? Very useful tool in GF's Golf. VDO one seems very expensive but looks good. Would replace clock too.

As far as I know taking the AIT from the ECU won't give an accurate impression of the outside air temp.
Behind the bumper would be good for the sensor but if it collects snow it will give a false low. |

Mine's set inside the drivers-side wing, near the headlight. When the car's sitting stationary in the sun it reads a bit high, but once moving it's spot-on.
On a previous car it was located in the air intake for the engine (somewhere in the airbox) - that worked really well...as soon as the engine is started it sits in a gentle flow of fresh air ![]() |
