Morning people.
It's good to be back in the clan again with another 90 She is 13 years old and I would say still running the original 235 GG but as you can imagine the side walls are cracked and need changing so my question is do I get Discoverer ST Maxx or STT? I don't do much, if any off roading and don't want the hum that I had on a set of MTR's, so what's the difference, why would they be your preference and where's a good place to buy. Cheers Life is one big adventure, that's why we have the vehicle for the journey. |

If you don't want the 'hum' steer clear of the STTs, despite being a really good hard-wearing tyre they do make a noise. If you're not really bothered why not see if anyone has a set of Grabber take-offs. You may even get the wheels too for the price of four new boots? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Can only comment on the STT tyres, I've had them on three different trucks, 90, 110 and 80 series LC and highly recommend them for road work, plenty of siping, quiet and behaved themselves in the wet. Adequate in the mud (although they're clearly not in the league of Simex or similar)
Edit: sorry, have to disagree about hum noise, I found them fine ... |

I've got STT's on my TD5 90 and find them an excellent tyre.
Can't comment much on the road noise as I can't hear a lot over the sound of the exhaust but I think the BFG AT's I had on the 110 were actually noisier. Best place to buy locally is Hilltop Tyres in Ilminster. Thanks for your replies guys that's been really helpful, the truck has been soundproofed and fitted with the GKN Overdrive so the journey back from Chester yesterday was very pleasurable and what I don't want to do is ruin what I have at the minute but it does need a more brutal look. I'm on a new set of STT and as I came from standard Grabbers, I thought the noise would be terrible.
These days, manufacturers have to stick to Euro law on tyre noise. Ok, there's a little hum, but its not that much louder than the Grabbers. Do I do a lot of off-road? No, but got them so that when I do, I can. I actually prefer the ride over the Grabbers on the road. They feel smoother and almost like a cushion. They roll a little more on fast corners, but nothing that would get me back off them. Personally, I think they look better than Maxxs too. I wonder who that can be for then Thought it had been built early when I saw a Firenze 90 on a transporter Friday but it had no black roof.
