I considered that at the time. The problem obviously is that the pick up ponts on the chassis you need to use are already occupied by the lower supports for the step, and you can't have both. I was going to try and fabricate something to serve both purposes, but thought I'd just try it in the mean time.
15 months on I still haven't got around to making something, but have used it as is a lot and not had any problems. The maximum I've towed in that period is under 2000Kg, but I dare say if you needed to tow more, it would probably be worth attending to. Pete |

Don't know why I never noticed this before. On the Dixon Bate instruction sheet, it says, 'in this configuration (meaning fitted without the braces) the towing capacity is limited to 3500Kg. To increase the towing capacity to 5000Kg use bracing struts (not supplied) fastened between the lowest holes on item DB67922 (the slider frame bit) and the vehicle chassis'.
So that reads to me that the lower braces aren't required unless you need huge towing capacity

It is - it's shorter so fits inboard of the ends of the rear crossmember. Not sure why this is; could be so that the end holes in the crossmember are available to fit other items such as bumperettes? |

Does this style bumper give you more ground clearance then the standard LR towbar? its only a car!

Was talking to a fellow 110 owner  , at the weekend, he had a slider on a Nas style bar,, and the step bar bent under towing !! He has fitted a normal tow bracket now California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

That's not the first one I've heard of getting bent either. I don't really understand how it happens though. If fitted as per the instructions, with the lower supports and the proper grade bolts, there are so many fastening points spreading the load across the whole cross member, underneath it with the angle bracket in the centre, and the two lower supports running back to the chassis, it must be stronger than a standard towbar.
Maybe it's the welds which break, or some other failure mode such as fatigue cracking caused by something repeatedly flexing, through not being torqued up properly, I don't really know. It would be interesting to see one which has failed. Pete |

Agree - especially if people could post any photos of said failures and see if there are any particular issues that can be pre-emptively addressed. |
