The reason the step is different is because the NAS step technically isn't legal in Europe due to in not being Type approved. Hence why they do it with holes for the tow bar with a shiny sticker on the back stating it type approved.

Bit off topic but that explains what the strips of steel that was making it damn near impossible for me to get a spanner or even a nut into the end of the cross member to fix my rear bumperettes, It was the tab for locating the anti-crush tubes. Thumbs Up

Mine were a little loose too when the dealership first fitted the step. I had to make up a special tool to be able to get at the inner ones on the ends and successfully torque them up. No movement since though.

Hi Guys I'm after one of these rear steps too. Just to clarify I think its the UK version STC50269AA, with 4 hole tow bar mounting plate.

I'm interested if anyone has any experience as to which manufacturers make these and what the quality is like? If possible I would also like to support one of the site sponsors when I order.

Mine's a genuine lr part - there are two different part numbers for 90 VPLDP0095 or 110 VPLDP0096.

What is the difference between the two. I have just bought one (LR Part) and want to fit it to a 90. What if its off of a 110?

The bracing bars are different to accommodate the differences in the rear chassis. If the one you've bought is off a 110 then it won't fit properly. Darren

What bracing bars do you mean? (the almost Z shaped bars that attaches to the chassis that run front to back?)

Had a step tow bar on previous Defenders,

but as it was too high for the trailers i tow, and needed an adjustable slider towbar,, it had to go Sad California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Why not just put your slider on the NAS? That's what I did over a year ago and have had no problems with that set up Thumbs Up
