As mentioned previously try their sister company Flux Direct first. I'm happy with their service, if you're not and deem to have a reasonable policy with NFU stay put and stick with what you are familiar with would be my advice.

The renewal came though for the wives car the other day, £380 from Admiral, compared the market and admiral came up at £245! When I spoke to Admiral they said yes that's fine and renewed the policy at £245.
Insurance companies are where is their commitment to existing customers when the renewal premium is quoted as 50% more than fresh trade!! Darren |

Sadly, there aren't many people who'll insure a Dakar.

I pay a lot with NFU, a hell of a lot, though I'm insured for towing, off road etc etc and I have a phone number that goes direct to a girl in the office. Can't remember her name, it's in my phone...
I think that is worth paying extra for, though I was curious as to how much I'd get it for elsewhere.. It just isn't worth the hassle. I used AF in the past for my 'unusual cars' and they can't be knocked for stuff like that. |

It appears to me that insurance companies are more interested in new trade than exisiting customers, I always use comparison sites and get a lower quote from a new company than the previous years company, they appear to work on the basis that existing clients cant be bothered to shop around so will just pay up. I questioned this once and was told that insurance companies often have a policy that gives them pot of money that is used just for this exact purpose. I have found that I end up with Aviva quite a lot when shopping around and often when it appears not to be Aviva when the documents arrive its underwritten by them. My advice is price comparison web sites give you a good bargaining point even if you dont want to change suppliers.
Sadly we all need to remember as well that Defenders are the most stolen and most modified (sometimes badly and often without telling insurance companies ) vehicles on the road DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

I'm insured with the NFU. I moved house last week - about 10 miles - so phoned them yesterday to change the address. I was pleasantly surprised when they told me I'd get a £130 refund! I was already paying slightly less than last year. Darren

I tried NFU as for the same reasons, I soooooo wanted to get insured.
However, a full like for like insurance between NFU and Flux was...... NFU - £880 Flux - £480 There was one difference between the quotes, NFU had a voluntary excess of £400, Flux has a £0 voluntary excess. Which is also a winner. Apart from that they are almost identical. It also includes off-road, laning and all the (minor) mods that I've got. Even though I wanted to go with NFU, £400 difference is bonkers. Just getting quotes in for my 110 I've restored.
NFU quoted £1015 but would need to check with the underwriters all the mods, although they had no clue whatsoever what I was talking about. (Snorkel, galv chassis, wheel spacers etc) Adrian Flux quoted £315 and knew exactly what I was talking about! Haven't got round to ringing any more yet but needless to say NFU won't be getting my business. |

The problem with the NFU is that all of the offices are individual franchises and offer different deals depending on their specialisms. The one I use is Meopham, which is miles from where I live, but they give me a pretty good deal. Darren
