Spray your oil up inside the locks, not down. There are two pivots at play in the lock mechanism. My blog - www.anacreinhampshire.blogspot.co.uk

had this problem on previous defenders one of which became so intolerable i decided to investigate. found the end plate of the striker plate was clashing with something in the lock mechanism causing it to pop open.
made thick striker plate shim from 3mm? aluminium using existing shim (pt No MWC3148) as a template. once fitted i never had the problem again! exercise caution when loosening the striker plate bolts (I cant remember if the nuts are captive) the shims are slotted so you dont need to remove the bolts completely. fitting multiple shims might be a better route but i was too impatient to wait for the post. borrowing the shims from other doors might confirm the solution before you spend time making thicker ones. May not be the solution to everyones problem but it certainly worked for me. i have tried to upload photo of damaged striker and shim in situ but as i am a newbie here i havent yet found the method of doing so. if anyone can tell me how to upload i would be grateful [/img]

|
