No im thinking it could be a wheel bearing but they don't normaly go far ticking before it turns into a roar |

Sounds like left front wheel, I opened the left window & the ticking became louder. Hope its not a nail, or UJ! Wait until daylight... I remember our 1st trip out as a family in the 110 me the missus and our two girls, on the A46 near Leicester, great big bang and we all jumped out of our skins , now I know the cause it not so bad |

Does the ticking get more pronounced on full lock?
Usually a worn CVJ is quiet in a straight line as the torque keeps the balls in the centre line, its only when the wheels are turned that the ball bearings have actually roll laterally in the cage, so any wear allowing them to catch causes a click How old is the motor, and do you know if the swivels have been filled with one shot grease or otherwise have you the correct oil level. In my experience nails and stones that fail to fly out of the tyres quickly fairly quickly wear down so thay they are silent. Any persistent clicking would then be mechanical, just try driving the truck round in a circle slowly on full lock. Again from past experience with an old Range Rover if the joint is even slightly worn it can click in these circumstances, but if you are lucky it could be the ball bearings wrn down and these can be replaced cheap enough with 6 3/4" balls He who dies with the most toys wins Defender 90 & 110, S1 80", Disco 1, S111 88 LRSOC & CVLRC |
