ALS or BANG BANG SYTEM how to work
it's principally work on petrol car where you can "spray" fuel when the throttle is closed and control the amount of fuel came out from the exhaust valves It's impossible to apply in a diesel engine (remember the diesel engine is a "self combustion engine" , petrol need spark plug, in a diesel engine you haven't throttle valves, you haven't the possibility to switch off the spark plug because you haven't the spark plug,.....) Think hes on about a dump valve to keep the turbo spinning as you change gear?
Ive heard of it done on a few diesel cars but not a land rover, it must be possible but how much it will benefit performance i dont know. |

No, ANTI LAG is nothing to do with the Wastegate.
Anti lag is as far as i am aware a crude method of keeping the turbo spinning by dumping un metred fuel and air in the inlet manifold pre combustion which in turn gets burnt creating the pop and bang at the business end, apart from looking good it has its benifits in assisting launch control and also holds the turbo on boost whilst sliding or partaking in the old scandanavian flick. Listen to the cars go off the line on a rally stage and you can hear the anti lag kicking in, just holding the revs at 6K wont help as the thing will just bog down off the line as there is no boost just good old fashioned Lag. Its OK for the big Rally teams "or not" as more recently most have folded, because if a turbo blows it gets replaced, the downside of popping and banging is blown turbos or the impellers detonating and getting sucked thro the cylinder head.......... I had a UR quattro some time ago which had the crudest means of Anti Lag installed and my god did that thing shift off the line, DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN |

There is only 1 reason people put a dump valve on a derv and that is for the sound......and show off. Even on a petrol car a BOV is pretty pointless, all it does is save the turbo for a few more thousand miles. Glyn |
